Newton, MA A Great City To Live In

Newton is a great place to live.  I have lived in Newton for 28 years.  It has a great school system and has many great amenities.  It is served by excellent transportation, includiing the MBTA green line, commuter rail and many buses. The buses include express buses to Newton Corner to downtown Boston.  It is also adjacent to I-95/Route 128 and the Mass Turnpike.  Newton has great parks, great shopping and many excellent restaurants.  During spring, summer and fall there are two farmers markets in Newton.

The City of Newton is a rsidential suburb of Boston.  It is abutted by Boston (the Brighton and West Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston), Brookline, Watertown, Needham, Waltham, Weston and Wellesley.  The population of Newton is almost 84,000 (according to the 2000 census).  It is the teenth largest city in the state.

Newton does not have a single town center.  It is made u pf 13 "villages".  Most of these villages have shopping areas or "downtowns" of their own.  The thirteen villages of Newton are: Auburndale, Chestnut Hill (Chestnut Hill is an area that includes neighborhoods in three cities: Newton, Brookline and Boston), Newton Center, Newton Corner, Newton Highlands, Newton Lower Falls (on the Charles River), Newton Upper Falls (on the Charles River), Newtonville, Nonantum, Oak Hill, Thomsonville, Waban and West Newton.  Oak Hill Park is a section within the village of Oak Hill.  On some city maps Oak Hill Park is shown as a separate village.  Even though Newton is a city, the villages, most with there own shopping areas and post offices have the feel of small towns. There are really no firmly defined borders to each of the villages.
