Curtains Up! would like to Invite you for a trip to Rydell High this summer for
Grease, the electrifying, fun-filled, original rock and roll stage musical, is cruising into PV High School in Palos Verdes Estates, Aug. 11 to 14. Produced through Curtains Up!, the highly acclaimed community theater program, this rendition of Grease is a slice of Americana for everyone to enjoy.
Set in 1959 at Rydell High School, the Tony Award-winning musical brings back the era of poodle skirts, pedal pushers, greased ducktail haircuts, leather jackets and hot rods. When wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski and ultra-cool greaser Danny Zuko fall in love over the summer, they unexpectedly meet again when Sandy enrolls at Rydell. While the couple attempts to rekindle their unlikely romance, their gang of friends, the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds, sing and dance their way through nostalgic scenes of pajama parties, pep rallies, proms, burger palaces and drive-in-movies.
Grease brings back the classic rock and roll sounds of the ‘50s with such hit songs
as “We Go Together,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Summer Nights,” and “Beauty School Drop Out.” With book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease has remained perennially popular since it first opened on Broadway in 1972.
Directed by theater pro, Paula Dawson, and choreographed by stage veteran Samantha Hill, and musically directed by Kathy Pate, the production boasts a cast of approximately 40 very talented local South Bay middle and high school students. “Grease is timeless, and its themes of teen romance, fitting in, and peer pressure are just as real today as they were in the 1950s,” says director, Paula Dawson. “We’re very excited to be able to bring one of Broadway’s most popular shows to local South Bay theater enthusiasts.”
Grease will run for five performances. Show dates are August 11, 12, and 13 at 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinees will be presented at 2 p.m. on August 13 and 14. Tickets are $15 and $20 for special premium seating and may be ordered in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (310) 750-6429.
