A Series on New Businesses in Lewisburg, WV, Part 1, Howes' Things, a High-End Boutique with Affordable Prices
Lewisburg, West Virginia, is a great place to live, work, raise a family, retire, or start a business. New businesses are opening in this small historical town of 3,700 people, where artists, retirees and shopkeepers live in Colonial and Federal buildings on neat, shady streets. Named "America's Coolest Small Town", Lewisburg is the largest municipality in Greenbrier County and is also the county seat.
There are several new businesses that have opened this year in Lewisburg, WV. The first in the series is a gallery called Howes’ Things.
Howes' Things Boutique opened their new location April 1, 2011. The store was previously located on Washington Street.
The owner, Lynda Howe, originally from San Francisco, CA, moved to Lewisburg in 2008 to accept the position of lighting designer and stage manager for Carnegie Hall and for Trillium at the Lewis Threatre. She had the opportunity to expand her business, and decided to open the boutique.
The store is an eclectic mix of items from hand-carved shorebirds to Pashmina wraps; from historical reproductions to jewelry. The mission statement for Howes' Things is, “to give our customers the experience of a high end boutique with affordable pricing,” says Lynda.
Her husband, Lanny Howe, is a Presbyterian Minister in Alderson, WV, and helps with the business.
The Howes are the sole distributor of JaneALTs hats, which were recently called "unique and fashionable" by West Virginia Living Magazine. These innovative one-of-a-kind handmade knit hats can be custom-ordered to suit individual tastes.
Howes' Things is a family owned boutique where their work is displayed and sold. You will find family photography, as well as her husband’s hand-carved shoe-birds that Lynda paints. Lynda designs the JaneALTs hats and her hand-made ponchos and scarves. You will also find locally-made jewelry, historic reproductions and so much more. Below are a few items you will find at Howes’ Things:
