~Your Playing Small Doesn't Serve The World~

This line is from Nelson Mandela's 1994 Inaugural Speech. I believe it was written by Marianne Williamson, but I'm not positive.

I read this speech EVERY DAY! And EVERY DAY this one line just jumps out at me. ~ Your Playing Small Doesn't Serve The World ~

I cannot help but believe that we are actually doing buyers and sellers a DISSERVICE by not making them aware of the amazing gifts we have to offer them in the Wonderful World of Real Estate.

If we do not allow them the opprtunity to see the value we bring to the table, they may have no choice but to choose another agent - because we didn't enlighten them. They can't hire us, if they don't know who we are.

It is up to US to make EVERYONE we meet aware of our chosen path & give them the opportunity to choose us as their representative when buying & selling real estate.

Sue-I completely agree with you here. There are so many agents and we need to WOW our clients. If we don't they'll go and find somebody else or they will never send us a referral. We have to think outside of the box.

I'm not a real estate broker but a spiritual seeker -- a slothful one at that since i'm just now getting around to reading Marianne Williamson's excellent and inspiring book, A Return to Love (written in 1992). I had always heard that quote attributed to Nelson Mandella so when I just read the same quote in Marianne's book without attribution (p. 165), I googled it to see who said it first and found this site.

You don't have to be a real estate broker to realize the value of not playing small. As a writer, I struggle with the same fear -- that I am powerful beyond measure -- which leads to the doubt -- then why am i not more successful -- which leads to the question -- what is really success?
