Mother's Day Gift Will Result in Empty Nest!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Top Agent Plus

I received the most beautiful fuschia plants I have ever seen for Mother's Day this year. There are up to four color variations in each basket. They are beautiful! I have enjoyed them immensely.

One morning while watering the plants, I noticed that something was sticking out of the top of one of the planters. I could not see inside the basket, but I recognized the work immediately. We started watering this plant very carefully and within a few days, we discovered this....

Shortly thereafter... we had new residents living in the fuschia plant.

It is fascinating how fast my tiny feathered friends are growing.
This next shot is within a few days.

Check back, I will continue to add photos until they leave me an empty nest!

Day 7 - They are still hungry. Their feathers are starting to develop.

Notice the little tupperware container? My husband has decided that there are not possibly enough worms in our yard to feed these little ones, so he has purchased worms at the bait store and placed them here for the mother to feed her babies. Funny thing is, the worms were there this morning and gone when we returned in an hour!

Rare glimpse of mother robin feeding her babies. Unfortunately, I had to crop and zoom in with the photo.

Day 9 - Feathers are developing and the nest appears to be getting cramped!

and true to nature, I am left with an empty nest!

Collette - I am enjoying these plants and the baby birds. Double bonus!

Paula - Thanks. I'm pretty pleased at how the photos came out too.

Bill - The mother robin was very nervous because she is very close to our front door. In the beginning she would fly off anytime someone went in or out. Then she got used to us and would stay providing we didn't linger too long on the porch.

Dianne - I have seen birds build nests in planters before, but the nest got abandoned.

Hi Judy,

Am looking forward to the next photos in the series.  So how DID you water that beautiful plant and not disturb the babies?

Judy:

What a great pictorial feature of eggs to babies.  Those babies sure are demanding.  Do they ever close their mouths?

Fun photos!  This reminded me of the time my son, a toddler at the time, presented me with a nest with 2 pigeon chicks.  My husband was out trimming a tree and apparently cut of the branch holding the nest.  Consequently, I spent the next few weeks feeding and caring for the birds until they flew the nest.

Sandra - The nest is on one side of the planter so we water carefully from the other side.

Evelyn - Whenever I come up to the nest, their mouths open wide if I whistle. It's quite comical.

Gretchen - I love my camera. It has been a joy to take these photos.

Donald - Thanks! Glad you like them.

Carmella - Sweet!
