As a contractor in need of having a charged and functioning phone I noticed that my iPhone, though new, wasn't holding it's charge nearly as long as my Blackberry did. People said that the iPhone just uses more power than other phone and I'm sure that's true. But why was my phone getting a shorter life? Turns out that maybe I was overlooking something, you may be too!
One of the benefits of having an iPhone is the number of apps that are readily available. They are fun, useful, and some a waste of time. All of them use additional battery power if left open. All of my apps were open, I didn't know how to shut them down. That is the reason for this post, maybe others can learn from this too.
By closing the applications on my phone, my battery charge has lasted longer. I have an iPhone but I'm sure that this same idea can be applied to other phones.

Hi Tom--by far the best information I have read today. My iPhone is charging right now and I just said yesterday that I seem to be charging it a lot more lately. Followed your wonderful video and turned off quite a few applications. Going to go do the same thing to by husband's phone right now. Thank you so very much!
Hi Tom, This is a great suggestion. One thing I do as well is to turn off my "location" settings and I also installed "sbsettings" for easier toggle between system settings and applications.
☂ Tom, great tutorial on how to turn off apps running in the back ground. They are a drain on the battery life! As is the GPS David mentioned... on my DroidX I even turn off wi-fi since I seldom need that running. I found where I could see my apps running but found it hard to tell which ones are needed and which ones aren't... in any event I'm getting some good battery life from the Droid. Another trick I heard was when you first get it run the battery all the way down then completely recharge. Do that a few times when you get it and supposedly the battery learns to take a fuller charge?? Pamela
Thanks Pamela for the comment. We have countless battery powered tool that we apply this principle (drain the charge completely several times). We have gotten into that habit, but I was told that with some of the new batteries (cell phones too) this isn't necessary. IDK, I just do it. :)
When I was shown how many apps I had open (30+) I thought they were shut off Robert. I assumed that by closing the window I closed the app. Now I know.
Tom, I have known about this for quite a while, and still haven't closed my opened apps in quite a while. But, I just did. Knowing about something doesn't mean that we will always do something about it. I also know that I should turn the iPhone completely off, every once in a while, which I don't always do. Thank you for sharing and best wishes always.

Glad I could help Janet, I know that it was useful to me.
Thanks David, I not sure what a "sbsetting" is, or how toinstall it.

I'm still running a blackberry, works just fine thank you. Great blog, one of those 'Of course' ideas, but if you don't think of it.....
Going to look at my apps now! Thanks Tom.

Well said Richard. Sometimes we just need to be reminded or given some instruction on how to do it. In the end, its up to us to JUST DO IT!
I will turn my phone completely off tonight, thanks for the reminder.... :)
