SUNDAY BLESSINGS ~ A LITTLE MORE RAIN TODAY!

Drought

In our very parched and dry land here in Texas, it was a HUGE blessing to get just a bit of rain today.  We could always use more but at this point we are thankful for each and every drop.  Our oak trees are suffering the most as you look through our dense forest you can see the brown, wilted leaves of these once gorgeous trees.

Our trees have taken a beating here in The Woodlands over the past few years.  Since Hurricane Ike in 2009, which took out a great number of our trees, two hard winters in a row and now this drought have truly taken their toll.  We are fearful that we will lose many more before this is all over.

Watering restrictions went into place this weekend.  I will write another post on this tomorrow.  So for now, we are thankful for the bit of moisture that fell today but always praying for more.

Hope you have had a great weekend and have a wonderful week ahead.  Many blessings to you all!

Look at those trees. That is why I love the Woodlands and Kingwood. Texas climate, with up north kind of trees.

Hi Paula. I pray you do get more rain. I know we could use more here in San Antonio too. Nice looking trees in the Woodlands, but I know they need water too.

Hi Paula, it was a very wild surprise to wake up about 4 in the morning on Saturday to hear it coming down and then it rained for a good 6 hours or so, I guess if we were not going to make the longest 100 + days in a row streak, we might as well end the streak with some much needed rain.  I also wanted to take the time to express my appreciation for your comments on my post about our dear Moose.  It was very much appreciated.

I don't know if you can tell that the trees in the middle are dead.  The pines are surviving while the oaks are withering away.  Must be due to the long tap roots as opposed to the shallow roots of the hardwoods.  We are going to have to cut down a lot of trees before the next big storm comes our way.  During Ike there was so much damage from falling trees.  Don't want to relive that again.

Yes, the trees do suffer, but they do grow up again which is a renewal.  A very symbolic thing that even if there is death, there is re-birth ;-)

HI Paula,  Our beautiful cypress trees here in the Hill Country are taking a beating too.  It is so sad.  Praying for rain everyday!

Ricki, I know you guys out there in the Hill Country are really getting desperate too for some much needed rain.  Very scary with the water situation indeed.  We all need to conserve, conserve, conserve.

Paula, we are praying for the heat in Texas to move out and allow more rain and cooler weather in.
