Technology today really does make it easier

By

As I watched my son work and work at this old well trying to get water, I thought about how this is like real estate today. Many years ago you would have to pump and pump and pump, just to get a bucket of water. Today, leads are almost like a faucet, you turn on your computer and there they are waiting for you.

Getting real estate leads doesn't have to be this hard anymore

But, a lot of agents don’t use the technology they have been given, they never hook those pipes up to the faucet. There still is work involved, but it certainly is a lot less than it used to be. Think of all the ways leads find us that weren’t there 30 years ago. We have Craigslist, Google, Websites, Blogs, Facebook, Twitter and every one of these produces leads with little effort.

Now, go turn on your faucet and work those leads. Because, if you aren’t working that faucet, then you are like my son, working a lot harder than you have to, just to get a few leads.

Todd, I would have hated to have done real estate prior to the Internet!  Using those old listing books would have driven me crazy!  I think that there is a time and place for some of the old ways of prospecting, but you're right, our lives are much easier with the technology that we have at our fingertips!

Todd,

Well said.  Leads are so much easier and the keys- well prior to lockboxes - it just seemed like TORTURE for my parents who were agents.

All the best, Michelle

You are correct on that. Technology is a blessing if used if not then go ahead and enjoy the pumping and efforts for little results

I think that the technology is a double edged sword. Everything is so fast. Someone emails and you have to be on it in minutes or they are on to the next agent. Same with phone calls, texts and more. Very little time off for us anymore and we have to be on the run to respond 24/7 and as quickly as possible! It has all become very fast and sometimes a bit impersonal!

As a home stager I disagree.  Frankly,  I have yet to see the value.   Realtors love the idea that they can reach their first time buyers, because they are more connected to the internet.  I'm in the midst of a survey of home stagers,...and the majority DO NOT get their business via the internet.

I thing you give the internet too much credit.

I do love the internet. I am just beginning to realize the leads that come in due to proper marketing. I hope to emulate your lead someday! I am still working at priming that pump.

Todd,

What a great post - it's clear, crisp and to the point. Anyone not taking advantage of new leads through advanced technology can't be guaranteed a successful future. As it is, there are no guarantees but it's truly up to us how we utilize our time.

Your analogy is excellent and that photo is too!

Thanks Todd!

Love it Todd.  It's one thing to have the technology. Learning to use it effectively is quite another.

I like this post.  Simple but yet it is loaded with thought.  I try to stay up on technology changes and keep myself in the loop.  Lots to learn and know and use, but well worth it.  Now I see "google related" lower bar on my pc... is this just for your post and if yes, how in the world did you do that?

Would you believe that I just read on FACEBOOK that my friend who lives in a beautiful gated townhouse complex is having a garage sale Saturday.  All the residents in the complex are participating in the garage sale.  Now that's a networking possibility.  You are correct.  Social technology helps to find leads.
