Mel Peterson - The Fairy Tale Realtor    Why I Chose Real Estate - The Fairy Tale Realtor - The Charmed Life and Humble Beginnings of Melinda Peterson

Once upon a time, in a land of sunshine and happiness, there was a little girl with golden locks and an infectious smile. The little girl loved the outdoors and made magical friends with flowing butterflies and flowering trees. She sang lovely songs under the stars while dreaming of an enchanted life in a beautiful castle in a far away land.

In the beginning, the little girl lived what seemed to be a normal childhood, safely playing on country streets in Los Angeles. At the young age of 6, the little girl started her first non-profit business, a pet cemetery. She would pick-up dead possums along the road and drag them by their tail to her backyard for a proper burial. She loved to play endlessly in her yard, taking in the wonders of her natural surroundings.

Then one day, her fairy tale world ended abruptly when the family babysitter stole the little girl's innocence and abused her tiny body in very wicked ways. Frightening as it was, the little girl knew she could never tell a soul or something bad would happen.  And so the secret stayed with her for more than 25 years.

As time went by, life became even more difficult for the little girl. Her mother was stricken with a debilitating disease, Multiple Sclerosis. Her unusually cruel step-father treated her like the ugly step-child with regular physical beatings, even killing her bird and attempting to drown her beloved kitty. The little girl learned to be silent and kept to herself, so as not to create problems at home or at school.

Shortly after her mother's divorce, the little girl picked up several odd jobs in the neighborhood and quickly learned that the more she worked, the more she earned. And by the age of 10, she managed to make enough money to pay for her own hot school lunches. She taught herself how to sew and she made some of the finest clothes around. And as she and her mother and brother moved from house to house, she learned how to paint and renovate each house, making it a home.

Eventually, the little girl blossomed into a young woman and continued to develop a curiosity for life and all its magical moments. While windows of opportunity were limited, she continued to discover many open doors that welcomed her infectious smile and positive outlook.  The young woman started two businesses, failing miserably at one and breaking even on another.  But all the while, she continued to smile.

And then it was, the young woman stumbled upon a charming little town hidden among the crevice mountains with lush green trees and flowing rivers.  The area reminded her of her childhood days of roaming country streets in Los Angeles. And so she said, 'this is the place where I shall begin my new life.'  And so it was, the young woman was convinced she could be quite happy in her new surroundings.

Not long after, the young woman met a charming Prince who encouraged her to follow her dreams.  The Prince taught her everything there was to know about real estate. He was patient, kind, generous, funny and very smart... unlike any man she had ever known.  The Prince encouraged the young woman to share her warmth and enthusiasm with the people.  And that she did, spreading smiles and sunshine to everyone in the land.

And before long, the people of the land grew to love the young woman's smile and they quickly spread the word about herMel Peterson - The Fairy Tale Realtor sunny disposition to all who would listen.  And much to the delight of the young woman, friendships were made and more smiles were exchanged in this friendly place.  At long last, the young woman found true happiness.

Then one tragic day, the young woman's charming Prince died. The young woman cried and cried and didn't know what to do. She remembered the words of the Prince... 'You can do this kid,' which brought a smile to her face.  And so the young woman remembered her dream... to acquire a castle and make it her own.  Naysayers discouraged her and said she'd never realize her dream.  But, the young woman was determined, so she continued to smile and worked hard to buy her castle.

Many years have passed since the little girl dreamed of owning her own castle.  And now, that little girl is a grown woman who has never forgotten the journey she took to become The Fairy Tale Realtor. And even in the most challenging of times, the woman never lost hope, nor her infectious smile.

Today, The Fairy Tale Realtor lives in a land of sunshine and happiness, where her smile warms the hearts of all who know her.  She loves the outdoors and makes magical friends with flowing butterflies and flowering trees.  She sings lovely songs under the stars while living an enchanted life in a beautiful castle. ~ The End

Ohhhh, good morning you lovely souls.  Imagine the huge smile you brought to my face this morning with all of your beautiful heartfelt comments.  Some brought tears to my eyes... I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm getting a little more sappy in my wiser years ;)  This post was indeed, a difficult one to pen, but absolutely necessary as part of the healing process.  I'm finding that the more transparent I become, the more my soul leaps for joy... and it's JOY that I seek daily.  I've opened a tiny window to my soul, and you've opened a huge door to your heart... thank you for being a special part of my personal journey and for welcoming me in with open arms.  Blessings my friends!

What a beautiful story! It is sad that some go through abuse when they are little at the hands of ignorant hateful people but thank heaven, you are stronger for your life's experiences. Building Fairy Tale castles is indeed a wonderful thing to do and helping others build theirs is even better!

Mel - have never commented on one of your blogs as I feel I live your life with you every day (and you with me) but knowing what I know about you, your Fairy Tale Realtor blog is a true milestone in your blogging career, and I think, cements your tagline as "The Naked Blogger."  Healing one's past can never be accomplished until one has the courage to drag the Dark Thing out of its hole and look it square in the eye.  Not many are willing to face the root of all neuroses - FEAR.  But I have had the great honor over the years of watching you battle the demons in your life and the wondrous effect it has had on you as a human being.  I am grateful for all that I have learned from you, my dear friend.
