Is ActiveRain a Good Place to Publish Your Listings?

I put this out there again because I miss all the 'other stuff'. There used to be quite a few bloggers out there that would make us laugh, pull out some really witty stuff or made us think. But know when I log on, I'm bombarded by one listing after another. I's good to have a mix.

Posting Listings to ActiveRainIs ActiveRain a Good Place to Publish Your Listings?

I think there's a tendency by many people, especially new members, to act on the assumption that ActiveRain is primarily a Listing Aggregator site, similar to Zillow or Trulia. This is evidenced by the number of folks whose blog archive is nothing but a never-ending litany of properties.

Is ActiveRain a good place to promote your listings? With so many listing aggregator sites flooding the Internet for consumers to access, don't most Buyers use those sites for their home searches? If so, then what's the value of posting your listings on ActiveRain?

If memory serves me correctly, it was never the intent of the ActiveRain Founders to publish listings on the platform, but they later relented to majority member sentiment. Maybe Bob Stewart can pipe in here and confirm that thought.

Regardless, I confess to promoting the majority of my listings here on ActiveRain. But they're the exception to my content, not the predominant element.

In addition, whenever I do post my listings, I usually do more than simply copy & paste HTML code from flyer generators like Postlets or vFlyer. I like to write 'content-rich' articles that adequately describe the property, interspersed with pictures, along with details about the development/neighborhood, area schools, nearby shopping and attractions, etc. I also like to use virtual slide shows like RealEstateShows and PhotoSnack. This way my listings take on greater depth, personality, and character, rather than a seemingly clincal array of cookie cutter flyers.

Here's my latest listing using PhotoSnack. And one using RealEstateShows.

What have you found to be effective? Do you publish your listings on ActiveRain? What flyer generating program do you use or prefer?

Hi Terri. I have posted some of my listings on Active Rain, but like Rich has stated, I thought AR was more for blogging and sharing idea. Whenever I did post a listing, I would blog about it with more descriptive content and photos. I have recently used Realbird and Postlets to post my listings on Active Rain. But, I feel we need a mixture of content to be effective.

Oh, absolutely. You do use a mixture, I read your stuff. I just think maybe some got the wrong idea and think it's for listings only.
