Southern California Fires - Aqua Dulce/Santa Clarita

By

This afternoon I had to go to Newhall to take photos of a home to do a BPO  . I decided to take my family and though this would be a great day for a family outing in Santa Clarita.  Before I left I was busy doing stuff around the house, and to be honest did not have the TV on.

We jumped in the car and decided to stop at Denny's for lunch. In the car I heard about the devastation the Maulibu fire was causing.  After lunch we jumped on the 14 freeway only to hear about the fire in Aqua Dulce.  As we rounded the mountain  you could see a wall of smoke in the sky.

It is about 25 minutes from Acton to Newhall and by the time that I had taken my photos of the home, the sky was filled with smoke and the streets were clear.  It was an scarey feeling to be in Newhall off Lyons Avenue on a Sunday and hardly see another car.

This is one of the fastest moving fires I have seen.  I am just glad that as of this blog there has been no reported loss of life.  Quartz Hill High School is an evacuation center and if anyone reading this knows someone that needs help being evacuated please give me a call.  I have several friends with horse trailers and we will help evacuate any one that is danger.

For those of us not in immediate danger - us this to remind your friends and neighbors in the rural areas how important it is to clear you land.  Unfortunately with the lack of rain the past few years these fires are more and more common.  The good thing - is that many people have taken the warnings and cleared their land.

If you need assistance please call me on my cell and we will help however we can. My heart and prayers go to all the families who's homes are in danger.

Donna,

Good reminder about clearing the land.

You may want to post up "What To Do - Clearing Dead Under Brush" as a blog here open to the public for your market. Hopefully your blog will show up high. Provide a link to your local area experts with the detailed info if someone in your area wants to know more.

Maybe post up on a frequency that the info will be useful; i.e., time period when "Fire Watches" are out there.

Take care.

Cheers, KIM.

Donna - I too was not following the news this morning and saw all the smoke in the west valley.  It really is an eye-opening thing to see whaen these fires come up.  I hope that it all ends well for everyone.  I have quite a few friends in Santa Clarita who are staying down here in the Valley right now.

Donna,

Like the others, I've been watching this afternoon myself. And now we have one roaring in Orange Co. I was talking with Marlene Bridges and fellow rainer this evening while driving. She said it looked like the entire hill (off the 5 freeway in OC) was a blaze. The winds today have been unbelieveable!

I live at the edge of hills myself, and consider my area safe, yet we all need to take precautions.

I hope that all these fires are just a very sad coincidence. I hope these fires have not been started by some crazy person who gets their kicks out of seeing others lives being destroyed.  I am suspectious of the amount of fires going - the last I hear I believe they said 17 fires today.

I know the Santa Anna winds are very bad - but is mother nature having some help with all this destruction??

Hi Donna....I caught the news this afternoon showing the blazing fires and nothing under control yet.  I lived in Florida and during the summer months fires are usually ignited by lighting....unfortunately we did have a few crazies think it would be cute to watch the fire department respond to a fire call after they light a high brush area.  It soon burned over 1400 acres and cost thousands.  The reports said over 250,000 people had to leave their homes already because of the fires.  Hopefully no lives will be lost and the rains will come to add a helping hand.  Nice update post with clearing brush.
