Is Blogging Daily A Bad Thing? Blog

Of course if you follow us regularly, you'll already know our viewpoint on that one!

Of course not, providing you can keep your quality level up!

We're here at least once a day, sometimes twice! We'll never catch up with Richard and his 1400+ consecutive days of posting, but we just finished 365 days straight Sunday.  Has it been easy to post every day?  Not always!  It's taken special planning around holidays and vacations, a few posts stashed in the Draft bank ready to switch to Public from the Crackberry if necessary :)

Now what have we gained from being daily bloggers?  Considering we just started blogging a couple of months prior to starting our daily streak, quite a bit!

Since we view it a necessity to blog daily, we've become much more attuned to our environment for inspiration.  We've developed quite the data stream to pluck ideas.  The daily and weekly paper, radio, Facebook and Twitter, area blogs and websites, local organizations, they're all prime sources for our posts.
We rely HEAVILY on Localism posts, especially during these summer months when SO much is going on in our local area.

Another gain is our personal knowledge of area activities.  We're much more attuned to area events, and places we used to just drive by....well know we know what they do!  It NEVER hurts to know more about your local market nor develop relationships with local businesses and promotional organizations.  Now does real estate allow us the time to take advantage of many of these events personally?  Well that's an ongoing challenge!

Our blogging inventory continues to grow, and thanks to sharing of information by people like Judi & Brad, we've found more FREE places to get blog photos to enhance our posts.  Initially, spiffing up our posts with the "just right" clipart or photo was the hardest part of a post.  We've taken quite a few photos ourselves, but when we need something we don't have, we're off to morguefile.com or Wikimedia Commons!

We've get found!  It might not always be by our target market, but we get found!  We've had calls from a bunch of teenage girls wanting to know about the curfew rules for St. Rita Fest, a call about setting up a vendor booth at a Christmas festival, a call about bringing pets to the Kitefest!  But yesterday we were contacted by an AP Reporter doing a story for a local magazine.  How did he find us?  Our Active Rain blog about the school district levy failures and the impact on property values.  If he uses our phone interview, we'll get some nice exposure in Cincy Magazine!

And we've gotten business!  The checks haven't cleared yet, but we've got a patio home new construction due to finish around November and we just listed a condo Monday, all directly attributable to our niche Outside AR Blog on patio homes.  We need to do more focus on community type posts to increase these contacts.  We can see from Google Analytics the posts are getting visited.

So our Internet presence has expanded tremendously in the last year.  Google has found us, and for some key phrases we just about own page 1, and all this from tidbits we've picked up reading and learning from our AR friends!

We've evolved how we blog quite a bit over the last year.  The topics we do
SMAK and don't choose have changed.  We try to keep a positive outlook, and if we feel a need for a rant, we'll just turn loose Miss Bad Manners, SMAK and Fluffy for a little fun!

We expect we'll continue to adapt, to seek what the consumer wants and needs.  What makes the phone ring?  That's the Holy Grail of Real Estate isn't it?

And the bonus part of blogging daily?  We get to interact with lots of great people on Active Rain!

So while we may not always get that first post out by 9 a.m. E.S.T., rest assured we'll have a post out at some point daily!

Keep on Blogging!

Great article. I don't blog everyday, but I am currently working on adjusting my schedule so that I can blog at least more than once or twice a week.

You certainly are one of the most dedicated bloggers on this platform, Bill.  All your posts are well thought out and written and it is obvious you put your all into them.  You deserve all the attention you are getting.

Jane, Thanks very much! :)  We try to exercise the philosophy that any post may be the only one someone reads and bases their judgment of us.  Got to get it right every time, just in case we're right :)

Bill and Liz,

I have to hand it to you for your commitment!  It was hard enough doing the months of blogging daily for some of the AR contests!  I can't imagine posting one everyday!!!  Maybe it helps that you both understand the value and can work together on it - my husband is supportive but not much help!!!

Have a great weekend and many contrats to you both!

DeeDee, Maybe you can put him to work taking Localism pictures :)  Get them in the photo bank and have them ready for when you need them.  We've still got a few local towns that we could use a few more samples from ourselves, part of the challenge with covering the whole county!

Liz and Bill, I can't imagine a non-stop 365 blogging. I am still recovering form that 31day May challenge LOL. I am glad you enjoying writing and the feedback. And the most important is that you can come up with the great content. For me it is still a struggle. But posts like this one motivate me and I will not give up trying harder.

I for one blog everyday, and except for the slight tick, and hump on my back, it hasn't effected me adversely at all! ;-)

Anna, Once you get into the swing of it, 60 becomes 90 become 150....and before you know it, you've finished a year :)  And I could see it might be harder as a stager to keep hitting new topics daily, so do what works for you.  The quality of the posts is critical.  A lot of people shoot for 3-4 times a week, and that should be more than enough over time to build a large body of work for the consumers to find you.

John, Hmmmm, just dark circles under my eyes here :)

Blogging is rather addictive.  I don't blog everyday, but I do post 10 times a week.  I found the AR Point Boundary to be both a good goal and good boundary.

Bliz, Something to aspire to. I have been on here since last December and it has definitely helped to get me found. I'm going to work on better consistency!

Gene, 10-12 seems to do it for us.  As we've been busier during the summer, the 10 seems to be it most weekds.

Deborah, It's helping no doubt.  We got another call yesterday from one of our niche blog posts.  We're meeting them at the new construction rep's place at 10:30 this morning :)

Oh lord, please let me find out for myself the answer to this blog post title.  folks like you inspire me but so far it hasn't transferred into fully actionable results.  Where there is life there is hope!

Beverly, All of us work to what works for us! Honestly I wish I could push out a few more pure real estate, community type posts like Anita Clark does, but I struggle with finding enough time.  A data driven community post like I like to do for a patio home community takes a couple of hours to pull the data and categorize.  Then of course we need at least a couple of pictures of the home exteriors to illustrate the post....but they SURELY are effective in getting consumer attention :)

Congratulations on your 1 year daily blogging milestone. I need to start making more posts for myself to create a bigger "footprint" in my area! The "juice" from AR comments has already risen the number of items that have been indexed by google.

Gerard, That's definitely the plus of frequent blogging.  Your footprint grows radically the more you do.  It's nice to see the Google position continue to climb :)

Whoa, 1400 and 365 days consecutive blogging?  That's pretty impressive.  I don't know if I have the discipline for that, but very nice work! -Kasey

Kasey, Richard's 1400+ days amazes me!  There were days during our current streak where we haven't necessarily felt like it, inspiration a bit lacking, so his streak of basically 4 years is particularly impressive.
