About Blogging

About the title of my blog.... The other evening I was working on a domain name for "my new outside blog".  I couldn't think of anything catchy or clever, so I enlisted the help of my friends on Facebook.  There were several suggestions but the top two are Pavblog.com and Pavsloft.com.  Thoughts?? Another friend suggested Nancy Rants which I thought was too negative for a domain name or even the title of the blog but is excellent for the title of some posts...so there ya go!

I'm going to preface my rant by saying that I know that I'm a relative newbie here so my opinion might not count for much.  And I know that my writing style may not be stylish or you might even say, has no style at all but I am a reader.  I read a lot for work and for pleasure.  In my quest to rack up the points here on ActiveRain, I try to blog whenever the topic hits me.  I'm much better, though, at commenting on posts and aim for 10 a day.

failing grade

So, on to my rant.....if you're going to post, please, please, for the the love of god, use spellcheck.  It's there for a reason.   Spellcheck is not perfect so reread your post.  Some of the errors are real words and spellcheck won't pick those up.  Capitalize....unless you're e.e. cummings.   Punctuate...unless you're James Joyce...and really, he should have punctuated too.  I couldn't get through his book  Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.  Use ActiveRain.  There is a Draft Review Class every Thursday

Whether your post is Public or Members Only, you're not projecting a professional image when you don't follow those few simple rules.

Good rant...and I agree. Some of the problem is we shoot them out too fast. I find even with my spellcheck and reread, I often miss things. Usually real words used poorly.

Karen~ We all have those occasions.  I find that sometimes I transpose letters because I'm typing faster than I'm thinking or maybe I'm thinking faster than I'm typing.  The sometimes occurences I get.  It's the ones that have typos all over the place that get me.  It's like nails on chalkboard.

I like PavsBlog! I'm a newbie too and I know I make mistakes in my writing. I'm sure I make punctuation error and use slang from time to time but I do try to utilize spell check and re-read the post before submit. Not that difficult.

I am leaning towards the "Pavsloft".  I like the idea you are asking your FB friends to participate, since they will probably be the first to read and interact on this new blog.

The fun ones is where you spell the word correctly but the use is wrong in regards to the context.  Just shows that mistakes will happen.  Have a great weekend all!

Good Evening Nancy.

It would be nice if Active Rain had a Spell/Grammer Checker in its editor. I am sure I've made my share of mistakes.
