The West Pasco Historical Society, Inc. has been a part of New Port Richey history for a long time.

The structure was built in 1916 and was the original Old Seven Springs School. A two-room schoolhouse which was used from 1916 to 1922 where one teacher taught all 6 grades.

It became a residence in 1925. In 1980, it was sold to Alex and Dorothy Acey and in 1981, they donated it to the West Pasco Historical Society. It was renovated and moved to Sims Park and now houses the West Pasco Museum.

West Pasco Historical Museum-New Port Richey-FL

The Museum has been undergoing some refurbishing for the past two years, and will have a grand re-opening on Saturday, Sept. 10 2011- from 10 am until 4 pm.

I love visiting the museum and seeing all of the old pictures and documents. Take the time to visit and see how New Port Richey grew.

Toni, Museums are nice to visit for all that historical information. There's a lot of history from that little two room school house.

It's important to document our history and it sounds like New Port Richey is in good hands with the West Pasco Historical Society overseeing this museum refurb effort.

Hi Toni,  I grew up in Pennsylvania and down the street from my house there was a 2 room school house that was use up to 1941 my mom said.  Now it is a resident also.

Hi Toni, It is always good when places of historical significance can be saved and restored like this building.  The stories it can tell.

Toni,

I love those old one room school houses, especially when you think of how much they accomplished.  They were the originators of learn and then teach method, where older kids helped the younger ones.  What a great idea to turn it into the museum. A

Anita - They have been doing a great job.

Roy - thank you.

It seems like they can be used for all kinds of things, Will.

Thanks, Kristin. My major was history.

Gloria - you are so right; it's a cute building too so I'm glad they saved it.

Alexandra - That's so true they were so important in communities back then; and this one still is.

Toni, That is nice that the building has been saved and restored into a museum!  Too many of the buildings like this one have been torn down and with them a referrence as to what used to be is gone forever!
