The Active Rain Passage to Mystery

By
Real Estate Agent with Liberty Homes RS-#62825

During the past few months I wondered where my Active Rain participation would lead me. I knew that it has helped tremendously with placement in google. I have reaped the rewards of gaining so much more knowledge in the Real Estate Industry and being able to bond with some of my peers. (These are the ones I would refer business to should there be an option for their area)

Among all the reasons for this grand Mystery of Active Rain and blogging I received the most profound one of all this morning. Through crisis we find out who we really have bonded with.

After grabbing my coffee this morning, I opened my email. The first one to catch my eye was William Johnson's email that he sent a couple of hours before I got up. Because of the horrendous California fires he was pretty sure they were evacuating and he asked me to let everyone know.

I emailed him back and soon after he called (7am my time would have been 10am his time) Keep in mind I have been meaning to call William for some time. (Darn blogging gets in the way) It was under these unfortunate circumstances that he felt the need to call me. Oh, how I wished I had called him sooner!

I then got to the office and called Jeff Dowler. He was one of the people who called me during our hurricane scare and reached out to me to show he cared. I so appreciated all the calls I received back then. And he was happy I cared to call as well.

I then called Laurie Manny (I didn't know where these fires had gone by now but thought I'd check on her) and let her know the last entry for Jeff was they were evacuating. After a few minutes I had to cut her off as it was the start of my work day at the office and I had to prepare our Monday Sales Meeting literature.

Over the months I've read the "Woe is me", the "Whining for no features" (Blogging Bertha can be such a nag) and "Write this Way", "Don't write this way" and "Comment that way" and this morning I promised myself to stay away from all those posts from now on. Those are definitely not good for my soul..

I realize that not all new agents will write unreal Real Estate posts and such but I really commend the ones that get involved with each other on a personal level with Real Estate as the common goal here. To share ideas and get to know people. This is the most diverse network with so many different ideas, information, knowledge and yes....fun. I know I utilize it well.

I realized that the most profound thing for me on Active Rain are the real people who utilize this network for what it is. Real Estate Industry related topic with a touch of our personalities and a little bit of us. The REAL people who can not only write but talk from their hearts. The REAL professionals who know what this business is all about and extend a helping hand to those in need.

My Active Rain Passage to Mystery is ongoing with the caring souls who really make up this network. This is the Active Rain Family. The support we give each other as our peers, business associates and the ones who have become our friends. These caring souls that I have seen all over this network today to reach out to the ones in this crisis. This is real.

Jason:  You too are very comfortable "in your own skin" which is what I look for in "real" people. No fakes, no snobs, no neggies or malcontents around me. That stuff rubs off and robs people of their soul. YUK. What people fail to understand is that ANYONE CAN JOIN  .....public, consumer, my clients can join and become members...and read member posts too. So, members only does not mean it's hidden and yes.. there are some offensive things here...  On the other hand...there are MANY positive people here as well. I care....although I have learned to keep boundaries as well. This is the internet....where people are also the best actors and actresses in the world..... or....as real as real can get. I thank you for your kind and positive words as well. You are most likely one in a thousand here.

I am very thankful for the Active Rain community as I have learned so many things from marketing to tech issues.  On top of that, I feel I have met some great people who I would definately refer business to and will when I get the opportunity.  Long live ActiveRain.

Sally,
I,too, am struck by the strength of the relationships we have here.  In years past, I have watched on the news as the fires raged in California and felt no connection.  This year was soooo different.  I knew I had friends there and was continuously checking the tv and blogs here to keep up with these friends and their safety.

Sally- I just want to say that I agree with many of the above sentiments.....you are in fact "real"....I know from talking to you, and reading so many of your Posts.....even this group....most of it is people that really care....Cynthia's comment says it all.....she indeed has reached out, and it does change things when you know people.

Cynthia: This is unlike anything I've encountered in my whole life. The connection is strong when an honest relationship is formed here. The power of Active Rain i have learned to respect. thanks Cynthia...you are coming along just fine.

Kathy: Thanks Kathy. Have to get to know people "outside" to really get an idea if they are real. I have learned and I have come a long way to understanding this is no game here. This is a big wide world of communicating and forming relationships with our peers...people who understand our business and we become friends with. Who do you think my friends are in real life here? My family and people in my office I have come to respect and love.

Sally, Mahalo for being you my friend. You keep the Aloha Spirit alive in me, even being so far away. You are right, there is a family here in the rain, those we have met and those we have MET. We are a family, we are Ohana. There for each other in good and bad.

When bad things happen it tends to bring out the best in people.  My prayers go out to those affected by the fires.  It is wonderful to see the Realtor community respond in such a supportive way.

Hi Sally, Things are winding down and I am nearly back to my old level of participating and tomorrow I will post my first blog. i ope it is a good one, I owe so many here on ActiveRain for their concerns and expressions and well wishes.

I went back to the house today. I cleaned all the debris and the ashes away from the front entrance and the rear patio. I got air cleaners to remove all the smoke smell but not in the garage. It will take some real doing in there. It is covered with ash and the smell is really strong. It seems the the cracks along the overhead door sort of acted a vacuum and it just sucked it all in there. I picked up few items and my hands were black with soot and ash.

The people that their homes will never be the same. The grief and the sheer magnitude of the loss will months and months of trying to put things back. Maybe even years. I am so grateful our little area was spared but we feel the loss of those that were not so lucky. It gives one a renewed spirit that but for the grace of God, go we.

Our city, the people, the herculean efforts of our firefighters, the military that got involved today, the state and even the federal actions have been extraordinary. Everyone came together and just got the task done and they are still there to prevent any back fires from rearing up again.

This will long be remembered by different people for different reasons. Though I was spared from tragedy, what I did get was the care and concerns of so  many and it enlivened my spirit and I shall be eternally grateful.
