Inspired by Sardi - My Top 3 reasons That I Am Not a Conservative

By
Real Estate Agent with Retired

Again, won't take too many words, just a couple of pictures:

Reasons number 1 & 2: my 1 year old grand twins Calleigh & Jackson

Reason #3, my soon to be 6 grandson Daniel

OK, I admint, I used the same pictures as in my post why I am not a liberal.

Because of and for them, I will fight against bigotry and for the freedom to associate with whom they will, to love whom they would. Because of them and for them I will fight against any abstinence only policy of sex education. Because of and for them I will against the imposition of any religious position in our laws.

And a few more reasons:

Go, Mike!  We can't afford to be liberal or conservative anymore.  And, those kids are a good enough reason.  You make a great point.

Cunningham generally bothers me and I'm not sure why that voice is in any way a popular one on the airwaves.  I don't hate to say it, but I am thinking that I'm a Mike Saunders type of guy.

I don't understand the whole bigotry being associated with conservatives.  If anything, that was a bunch of Southern Democrats that created the KKK and all the Jim Crowe laws.  The Republican party actually abolished slavery and fought off most of those laws.

But I get it otherwise, keep religion out of government and government out of religion.  I wholeheartedly think that government-run public schools have been one of the worst things to happen to American children.  If people don't think that government educators and teacher's unions don't have a liberal agenda, they are extremely naive.

Jon - yeah, I thought about posting just one, but thought I  might get different people joining the conversation if I did two. At my point level, it certainly wasn't just a points scheme. Who am I, good question.

Nick - whats the Freedom of Speech quote in reference to? Thanks for the feature.

Georgia - thanks, congrats on your 3, hope they are well

Rob - as stated in the other post, there have been numerous attempts, often succesful, to limit the rights of gays, that is the bigotry. There have also been many conservative attempts to regulate behaviour, although in different ways than the liberal attempts to regulate behaviour.

The freedom of Speech quote is my agreeing with your right as any other to not be SILENT - and watch our country be destroyed by irresponsible spending and liberal policies that haven't worked in any other socialist state or country.

Liberals calling us bigots is the same as them calling us racists. They can't find a logical way of explaining their positions on the issues, so they make issues out of other aspects of the conflict.  I proudly claim to be conservative, will defend the definition of marriage being one man and one woman, but also believe that Gays should have the rights they want.

Our grandchildren will be totally enslaved if we do not get the corruption in both parties out of government.

Nick - I won't remain silent whether its liberal, conservative or libertarian policies that I think will be bad for the country

John - while I agree that bigot and racist are often used because there is no logical arguement, there is bigotry and racism in both liberals and conservatives, albeit I am not saying that it is ubiquitous. However, legislation denying gays not only the right to marry, but the right to civil  unions and the other benefits that others enjoy is bigotry.

Again, we disagree on legislation denying gay marriage is bigotry - civil unions solve the problem with the benefits we have talked about. Bigotry is a stretch when the legislation for marriage in this country have always been preserved between a man and a woman since this country's inception.

Georgia - and other teachers have lost their jobs because of conservative values for pictures of them in bikinis with drinks on facebook

Nick - you did not read the entire comment. Several states, in the same legislation that denied marriage to gays also denied civil unions and other benefits. That is bigotry, whether religious or not. And marriage has not been preserved between man and woman, it is tradition (except in the church). Again, the government should not be in the marriage business at all, at least legislatively. The government should only recognize the contract between the consenting adults and should not have anything to do with marriage. That could be left to the churches.

Pretty much every criminal law is regulating behavior in some way.  There are a lot of rules in the USA that regulate my behavior that I think are a bunch of anti-capitalist garbage but I obey them anyway - MARS, lead paint, Dodd-Frank, Obamacare, etc.  Once you start crossing that line of allowing gay marriage you open the door to legalizing polygamy, triads, etc. which could cause an entire breakdown of the family.  I personally believe that gays should get some sort of domestic partner rights for legal purposes only. Of course Hollywood and the Jersey Shore has done more harm to the institution of marriage than any gay person every did.

Georgia - the ACLU has often defended Christians, in Florida they defended the rights of Christian students wearing T-shirts expressing a preference for Christianity over Islam. In NJ the ACLU defended the right of a student to wear an arm band that was pro-life and anti-abortion. While I am not a big fan of the ACLU, they do support and defend Christian rights when infringed upon.

Rob - some regulations are necessary, but yeah, Dodd-Frank, Obamacare do go too far. And here you go with that trite domino theory ending with the breakdown of the family. I have yet to see a real example of homosexuality destroying a family. Yes, I agree, families have been destroyed because someone in it was not able to cope with the fact that a son or daughter was gay, but that is also the case with unwanted pregnancies, inter-racial relationships, change in religion, even political differences. As for polygamy, triads (which I presume is really a group marriage and can include more than 3), again, can anyone show a real example of how that would destroy the family. The real destroyers of the family are the "state" that is usurping the rights of parents and the parents that are abdicating their responsibilities to others, especially the state. As a disclaimer, I am not promoting polygamy or group marriages. However, the government should have no say in marriage at all, including those to, other than in regard to the contractual portion of it.
