13 Comments on Wilson High School Supply List - What's Missing?
Not that it has any relevance to this post, but I attended Wilson High school, a few years ago.
I an get behind that policy. Can you imagine how maddening it would be for a teacher to be vying for attention vs. a phone or iPad?
Patricia- first of all I'm still trying to picture Lenn in High School.... but I digress... I can understand their reasoning. Can you imagine trying to teach a class where everyone's head is staring down at their iPhone.
I hadn't given any thought to all these technical devices in schools...wow what a nightmare! Good policy to keep them in the lockers!
Pat - personally, I think that's a great policy. We have all become so dependent on our electronic devices that we only listen with half an ear to the humans in front of us. In a classroom environment its way too distracting and education winds up poaying second fiddle to the smartphones, and other electronic devices.
Good for them, Pat! There really is no reason for cell phones or ipads in the classroom. Well, MAYBE ipads in college, for taking notes, but for other students, it would be WAY too distracting.
I think it may be called FOCUS, or pay attention, or how about some courtesy? Great policy, gives hope for the future!
Not only that, but cell phones, especially the smart ones, are SOOO easy to use to cheat. You don't know the answer to some history question? A quick under-the-desk search of google gives you the answer.
Can you imagine a teacher trying to teach a class with all the students head-down answering a text message from someone on the other side of the classroom? AGH. I'd quit!
Now, the real question is, will this new policy be enforced? If not, it's sort of useless.
Pat
It just amazes me how far technology has entered into the teaching realm.
Thank goodness they institued this policy. It would be impossible to teach a class of kids constantly texting each other.
Lenn, you might have gone to school with my first ex-husband!
And I think this policy is a great idea. Anyone who read my blog knows htat I'm all for leaving electronics in a dormant state when driving, and I think the classroom deserves the same attention that one shoul have when driving.
Pat - I know cell phones are a real problem down here in the schools as well and it isn't just the high schools anymore, even the elementary school kids have them!
Pat
It's certainly a sign of the times that this sort of policy is in place. Wonder how well it will actually be enforced...or can it?
