1.Self-Belief - We have to always set goals, believe that we will achieve them and take action to make our dreams a reality. For example, if business becomes slow and you are not getting any clients, think about different strategies that will increase your business. The thing about real estate is that many times we work for free or actually spend money before we make anything. You have to push through these tough times because when you male it through it really pays off.
2. Love What You Do - In order to push through the roller coaster that is the real estate profession you must truly love what you do. With all of the ups and downs it can be easy to get discouraged. The key is to do it for the love, not the money. We must be passionate about real estate. If we adapt this attitude we will make it through all of the tough times. As I always tell the agents in my office "If you chase money, you'll burn yourself out, but if you chase your passion the money will chase you".
3. Take It Easy On Yourself - One of the biggest reasons many real estate professionals and people in general do not experience all of the success that they desire is that they are too critical of themselves. As human beings we tend to beat ourselves up if things do not go as planed. If we adopt an attitude of self-forgiveness we will experience more success than we ever imagined. When we beat ourselves up it hinders our focus, and takes us off track from our goals. The sooner we decide to learn from the difficult experiences and pick ourselves up, the sooner we will be back on track and moving closer to success. Situations will not always go as planed but if we can quickly forgive ourselves and move on we will be much better off. No one wakes up one-day and magically realizes they are a great agent or broker, it takes time, hard work and passionate effort. We all have to go through the ups and downs of being a real estate professional in order to reap the amazing rewards. Look at every obstacle as learning experience. The sooner we pick ourselves up the better.
4. True Competition - The only competition that we face as businessmen and women is ourselves. Many real estate professionals focus on what the competition is doing, instead of focusing on what they can do to enhance their business for themselves. The reality is that we are our only competition. The goal should not be to out do the next guy but rather to escalate our skills to the highest level. If we adopt this attitude it is only a matter of time before others view us as an example of greatness.
