If the home you are selling is vacant, you better make sure that you have vacant home coverage under your home owner's policy.  If you don't have it, Ketty Wilcoxen of Long & Foster Insurance can hook you up.  Not all insurance companies offer insurance for vacant homes, so it's nice to have a back up plan.

Our Resident Long & Foster Insurance guru, Ketty Wilcoxen has some very valuable information about having Vacant Home Coverage when your home is vacant; not just for seller's anymore.  Check out this great blog by Ketty below:

In today's real estate market, you have homes that remain unsold for months and the owners have no choice but to move and leave the home vacant. Did you know that a typical homeowner's policy will quickly reduce or terminate your coverage if your home is vacant or unoccupied? In most cases, your coverage is lost after 30 days. If you had to file a claim and the insurance carrier found out that there was no one living in the home, they may only pay a part of the claim or deny the claim.

Long & Foster is able to offer a 3, 6, or 12 month policy depending on your situation. Here are just a few:

·         You are not currently living in your home because it is being renovated.

·         You have moved out of your home but cannot sell your home.

·         You have just purchased your home but no one will be living in there for a few months.

If you are unsure of the coverage you need to have for your home, let me help you. We have a few options available depending on your personal situation. An empty house needs special insurance, make sure that you are covered properly.
