Okay, here goes, my rant on Global Warming, or Climate Change, whatever you want to call it, it's true! The earth has gotten warmer in the last 100 years. But just like it has over the recorded history of man and before, the climate is always in flux. What gets me is the assumption that we are even remotely involved. Let me give everyone some numbers to ponder:

  • the number one green house gas is.......anyone.....Buller.......CO2? Buzzzz, sorry thanks for playing, no it's H2O, or better yet, water vapor. Not in cloud form but as humidity. 95% of all the green house gas is water vapor. (and it absorbs heat 2x better than CO2, but I'm not going to go there today)
  • Now what does that leave, 5% for everything else. That includes CO2, methane, and all the other green house gases, but primarily CO2.
  • The total amount of CO2 in the atmosphere at one time is approx. 150 GTs (gigatons). 90GTs are exchanged naturally between the ocean and atmosphere and 60GTs are exchanged between life on land.
  • We create 5 to 6 GTs a year, that amount is within the statistical noise of the total amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. We really don't add enough to move the balance one way or another in respect to CO2.
  • But, remember, CO2 and all the other green house gases are only 5% of the total. 95% is water. That is equal to 3,000 GTs. So when we add them up we have 3,150 GTs of green house gases. And we control 5GTs. That means we contribute 0.18 of 1% of the green house gases to the atmosphere.

Let me give you an example of just how little that is. Picture if you will a 30 story building. Picture it empty from the top to bottom. You're standing on the first floor and you look up, all you see is air. That is all the GHG in the atmosphere. Now, look down, and you'll see that you are standing on a linoleum floor, with a thickness of approx. 1/8 of an inch. That is how much we contribute the the GHG in our atmosphere. Now I ask you, can anyone make a case that that little amount is going to make a difference at all, no, I didn't think so.

If you think I have no idea what I'm talking about I would refer you to this article; Does CO2 really drive global warming? http://pubs.acs.org/subscribe/journals/ci/31/special/may01_viewpoint.html#top by Robert H. Essenhigh http://pubs.acs.org/subscribe/journals/ci/31/special/may01_viewpoint.html#auth

In much greater detail he explains why looking at CO2 as the cause is like putting the cart in front of the horse. You will find more sense in this one article than you will in any OSCAR winning movie produced by a Nobel Prize winner. Please don't get me started on him, that's for another rant.
