It's Like Butter on a Pancake!

I received a call today from an out-of-state buyer.  I'm rarely surprised by such calls as the geography in which I practice real estate is attractive and appealing to folks wanting to relocate from other areas of the country.  I've spent a considerable amount of time, money and energy marketing Southern Oregon to the masses, which generates lots of inquiries like the one today.  However, what does amaze me is the reason they call me over my competitors.

When I receive a call from out of the blue from a potential client, I always ask how they found me and the reason they chose me.  Today, I spoke with some folks from a ritzy retirement community in Arizona.  When asked the all too familiar question, their answer was the same as all the other subjects I've polled... 'Because we like your story and the way you present yourself.'

It's fascinating to me that I'm never asked about my years of experience, nor my areas of expertise, nor my sales accolades or designations.  Inevitably, potential clients always reference my Blog, my Picture, and more importantly, my Story.  They seem to eat this stuff up like butter on a pancake.  How do I know?  They tell me so!

There's nothing more gratifying than someone choosing you a small fish out of a very big pond of fast-swimming competitors.  In our real estate world today, the pool of buyers is forever shrinking and competition remains stiff among agents.  All the more reason we need to be thinking about what sets ourselves apart from our competitors.  Many have written on the subject here in the Rain, so there is really very little to add in terms of competitive information to that which is already circulating the virtual hemisphere.  But allow me to indulge your blogging taste buds for a moment.

People want to be engaged... people crave deeper connections, people want more personal (if that weren't true, then why is Facebook, Twitter and Reality TV so popular?).  Perhaps we should consider giving them something more appetizing... like butter on a pancake.  If you whet their appetite for something yummy, other than all things real estate, they might be more inclined to devour the appetizer and stay for the entree.  The Naked Blogger is a bit of a foodie and knows a little something about delectable apps.  Stay tuned for more appetizing thoughts about blogging for business... guaranteed to satiate even the most hearty of appetites!
