So, I STILL hate spam, even if I haven't written a blog post here recently.
Today I am very annoyed that CAAR, The Charlottesville Association of Realtors is standing behind a non-Realtor "Affiliate" member that spammed the entire membership base with their annoying "Who is Who in Albemarle" advertisement.
What this is is buying an email list by becoming an "affiliate." It is very disappointing that Anne Gardner and CAAR's Tiffany Vann have opted to take the "Well just delete it or ask to be removed" approach to spam.
This is a very 2001 approach.
I have suggested that they follow what NVAR has done and NOT allow affiliates to spam members.
If they won't do that, at least offer
1) A global OPT OUT where agents can opt out once and not have their emails shared with affiliates who will spam them. (Heck why not also add a global OPT OUT, so agents won't spam other Realtors with their listings)
2) A global OPT IN where the agents have to opt in to get these junk emails.
Why don't more Realtors complain about this? Because they don't know that their association is behind the spam they are getting.
