In a recent article by Success With Your Money (Winter 2007), American were polled as to their thoughts on several areas of finance. The results are as follows:

Budgeting-

18% of the average homeowners take home pay goes toward paying off auto leases, mortgages and consumer debt.

39% of adults state that they have set aside enugh money to cover three months worth of living expenses.

 

Retirement-

5.4% of pre-tax salary dollars that employers contribute to a 401(K) plan

6 in 10 U.S. workers think that they need less than $1 million to retire.

 

Investing-

50% of households own stocks and mutual funds

 

College Savings-

$7,000 is the average amount saved by households that have a college fund

$19,300 is the median debt of 2003-2004 graduates who borrowed to finance college

 

Homes-

$221,000 is the average size of a fixed rate mortgage in June 2007

$337,500 is the average size of an adjustable rate loan in JUne 2007

Interesting figures they reported!  It just continues to paint the picture that the MAJORITY of Americans don't have their financial house in order!  It really is unbelievable how many people don't even know what a home equity line of credit or loan is and how it works!
