Shirley: I agree also....but the point was we used to talk about buying Made in America.
Karen - I'm surprised you found something 'made in USA' in Walmart!! We also try to buy Canadian and our town has created a "Buy LOCAL" banner that goes across the main street here. If everybody does a little, we all get a lot!!
PS Even as a Canadian, I am hitting suggest for this as it applies to both sides of the border.
Susan: There were 2 T shirts which were Made In America. At least white ones. Like the Buy Local idea.
Great point. But sometimes it is so hard to buy Made in America. There are no American made TVs. In fact few Electornics even if the are American brands are made here. ABC had a special where they went to the gift shops of various all the memorablia were made overseas. New Gingrich's campaign T-shirts are made in Honduras. And our passports are printed Thailand. When Reagan annouced we were now a "service economy" I protested d out loud servicing what and for whom. We have to make something.
Maya: It's true...and we can't do it on all things. But we can try to do a little. We don't need to make all of our buying decisions in this way, but a little bit here and there could go a long way.
Maya - I believe I saw part of that special in which a family decided to stock an entire household of products with only Made in America items and how difficult to impossible it was for certain items like tvs and kitchen applicances etc. It was quite shocking but I can only believe we're going to go full circle in both the US and in Canada. I think we've learned our lessons :)
Karen, this is a topic I've been thinking about for quite a while now and I agree completley with what you are saying. There was an attitude in our country at one time of working and pulling together, a feeling and display of national pride...I don't see so much of that anymore.
Anyway, I think this is a very important post for people to read so I have suggested it and plan to reblog.
What do you say...let's buy American...let's regain some of the national pride...let's start putting America first....just my 2 cents.
Karen, Great post! It's a shame when the only times we pull together as a country are the disaster times! Otherwise we're just bickering ALL THE TIME! I love your BUY AMERICAN mantra, and try to do that also. I'm OK with paying more for something produced locally, as that extra money is just going to recirculate right here - at home!
Karen...... I really like that you are presenting "a solution" with your post on buying products that are Made in the USA. Blogs, such as yours, will bring awareness and motivation to take the time to examine labels/packaging, and perhaps spend more to rally the economy, help to keep jobs here, and support Americans. Thanks for the post....
I too love this country and there really is SO much anyone can do. Support MADE in America for starters. Support those who stand up the "the machine". Support your local small business, VOTE!
Help support causes and charity's you are passionate about.
Its time we act politicians talk we need action, period!

Karen - You are so right! I was just thinking the other day that we use to be a manufacturing country, but nowadays practically everything is made overseas. I try to buy American any time I can!
Karen, there was a "thing" going around the internet in the sping that if we all just started buying AMERICAN..from our canned goods...and you might want to look at them, too...to our clothing, furniture, electronics (yeah, right) to everything else, we might get more jobs back here in the US. Good for you. Suggested.
When my youngest daughter was in parent-participation preschool, it was our policy NOT to buy anything made in China-not for economic reasons but for philosophical ones. We didn't want to financially support a country that commonly uses child labor in our efforts to support our children here.

Since I've been making it a habit to read the labels I've found that I really don't need a lot of things I might have purchased just a few years ago. Now I look for the "Made in USA " label. I'll also buy made in Canada - but "Made in China" stays in the store.

Karen, absolutely agree with you 100%. Buy American made. If we all get together and support our country and each other, we can do the best we can by buying American made products and that will be proof enough. For example, I buy only fruits and vegies in the produce department that are grown in US. In California, produce has to be marked if it is imported. If the only apples available in the market come from Brazil, we don't have apples at home that week. I know this sounds like discrimination, but we have farmers and growers in our country who need to be supported. Great post for discussion, suggested!
I agree but we have to help our manufacturers with the cost of regulation. It makes them less competitive higher cost than other countries.
Susan: I'm sure it's very hard...and I don't know that that would be the point, but some small decisions add up if we all did it.
Nick: I see so many people turning on each other, class warfare and entitlement. That's not going to help us
Pat/Ben/Martin: I am really paying attention to things, it's a bit more expensive, but I feel better about it
Teri: We need to create our own solutions, from the people, heaven knows it's not coming from our leaders. (sigh)

Lina: We were...and now our companies do make more overseas, doesn't mean that they aren't good companies, regulations and taxes have forced this, but a product made here is still an American job.
