Hurricane Preparations in Hernando County, Florida
There are always those people who will not prepare "until it's time". Luckily, with hurricanes, we have several days of notice in advance, the time is now to prepare in case of an emergency.
As hurricane "Irene" is making it's way towards through the Atlantic and heading towards Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, it is time to take inventory of what you already have available to you in case of an emergency.
If you have not yet made preparations for yourself and your family, this should be your wake up call. The longer you wait, the more crowded the stores and the emptier the shelves will be.
Make sure to stock up on essentials that include water for several days, non-perishable foods and snacks, batteries, baby and pet food, medications, dry clothing, and a basic tool kit. Also, don't forget to put together your important papers, cash, and contact numbers in case you need them.
You can find a more complete list of emergency supplies at the website of the National Weather Service (NSW).
In the event that you will have to leave your home, make yourself familiar with the nearest evacuation shelters in Hernando County.
