The weather in Connecticut has been unseasonable warm this October, so it would be a wonderful time to take advantage of the great temperatures and take an afternoon to explore Peter's Rock. It is about a mile's hike to the top and you get a wonderful view of Sleeping Giant. You can also see The City of New Haven and many spectacular views of North Haven. Enjoy the foliage of the way up. In my opinion, fall is the best time to go. The leaves are changing color, the air is crisp and the insects are not a problem. Bring along a picnic lunch, there picnic tables available at the start of the trails for you to enjoy a family lunch. There is also a new pavilion at the entrance and plenty of parking. The park entrance is located at 133 Middletown Avenue next to the First Fuel Gas Station, in the Montowese Section of North Haven.

I've asked these questions to Brian and he didn't know.  Whow is Peter and is there a real rock there? I guess I'll have to drag him there and find out!

Nadya What did you expect from Brian? Peter's Rock is named after Peter Brockett, a farmer. His family still has a farm in North Haven. Peter's Rock is not the original name of the area and yes there is a rock there. For more information and history about Peter's Rock check out the Peter's Rock Association

This sounds heavenly!!  I was in VA in August for a conference and had the pleasure of visiting some family I haven't seen in years...we did some hiking.  I wish I would've thought to pack a lunch...we did stay up on that mountain for quite awhile just playing ketchup and talking about our lives as kids and so forth.  This is a wonderful post that is bringing back some delightful memories!!  THANK YOU!!!
