I like to re-blog material that provides useful tips or advice to my audience. In the following blog, Alan May provides instructions on how to locate unclaimed money that you may be entitled to. Great job, Alan!

I was listening to Good Morning America, as my mind was percolating to the foreground this morning, and happened to hear them talking to their audience about "Un-Claimed money" that was just waiting for people to claim.
They waded into their audience outside the studio, and did some searches for those in the crowd. Now you would assume that they'd hit one or two...but to my their surprise (and mine) they found some money for 64% of the people they approached.
And, the best part is that it took only a handful of minutes and the search was free!
So, this morning, I wandered into the office, armed with the website they'd given out, and plugged it in.
Unclaimed.org
Note, that it's .org, NOT .com, because if you go to the one market .com, that site will charge you $18.00 to search the very same databases that the free one does.
So, I punched in Unclaimed.org, and it gives you a map... click on your state (I clicked on Illinois), and it will take you to your state's lost money page.
That click took me directly to the Illinois Treasurer's page for lost money, where I found "Search Cash Dash". (your state may appear differently)
After following a handful of simple instructions... I found four instances of money owed to me. Three of them were State Farm Insurance rebates, that somehow had never been cashed, and the fourth one was a rebate from a disk drive I had purchased approximately 1980.
Three of them indicated they were between $10-$100 each, and the fourth was listed under $10.00.
So with very little effort, and a handful of minutes on the computer... I've found at least $30.00, maybe more. There is some paperwork I have to fill out, and snail-mail in.. (they want copies of driver's license, social security number, proof of address, and it has to be notarized)... but this is way, way cool.
