Syndicating is OK When you Acknowledge You Are Doing So - Posting One Blog Multiple Places
I get asked all the time if there is a way to write the article once and have it go everywhere you want it to go - POOF!
Unfortunately there is not a magic program for all blogging platforms, sites or consolidation systems that allow it to be done for everything. There is a WordPress plug in that allows you to move all your ActiveRain posts into a WordPress site but they can be complicated and typically only do the process once (As if you were leaving ActiveRain and wanted to take all your posts with you).
The reality of it is, if you want one post several places, you must copy and paste them over. Whether you start on your website, ActiveRain, another blogging platform or social site, the KEY is to make a note of where the content originated.
Google doesn't like duplicate content. Most of us know that by now. They really don't like plagiarized content (and neither do we). To avoid both the best way to handle this is to place a link at the bottom of your post back to where the content originated. (for the sake of this post I am only condoning your own content - not anyone else's)
For example: If I syndicate a page on my Las Vegas site into ActiveRain that is the same content, say about "Las Vegas Communities" I would need to include a link to that exact page at the bottom of wherever I syndicated it.
Here is another example of one I just syndicated for someone - Oak Harbor Washington - Homes and Information - Whidbey Island - At the bottom there is a link to where the page originated. By doing this I am telling Google that this is just a syndication of my original work over here. That way Google knows which article was done first and it will count that first article with more importance than all the duplicates. (Here is another example: "Beebe Ranch - Lots and Land for Sale on the Columbia River")
If Google finds duplicate pages without the acknowledgment it can penalize both sites. I don't want to say it's a for sure thing because Google will still be able to tell where the content first started. If there is no acknowledgment it will typically penalize the duplicate pages created after the original. This may be in lower ranking, non-indexing or a flat out ban of the site altogether.
So remember, when you're syndicating your content, add that link back to where it started and you'll be good to go!
