Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the whole East Coast, and everyone is preparing for Irene here in Connecticut. Batteries, water, and food are flying off the shelves very quickly, but there are other items that might not be as obvious that we need to be prepared with as well.
The Hurricane Preparedness List below is not meant to be an all exclusive list, but the basic items that I feel that we should be prepared with.
Hurricane Preparedness List
- Water for at least three days, you should try to have at least one gallon per person per day.
- Food enough for 3-days, and it should be non-perishable.
- Snacks
- Flashlights & Lanterns: Different sizes and plenty of batteries.
- Battery powered radio.
- Full tank of gas in all your vehicles.
- Shut down computers, and other electronics.
- Charge up the battery in your laptop.
- First aid kit.
- Toiletries, sanitation, and personal hygiene items.
- Cell phone with chargers.
- Extra cash.
- Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby, food, diapers).
- Pet food and supplies.
- Extra clothing.
- Rain gear.
It has been a long time since Connecticut has been threatened with a Hurricane of this magnitude, so this will be a first for many. People need to use common sense, and stay in side their homes. DO NOT DRIVE unless it it absolutely necessary!!!
