THE PLAZA THEATRE, EAST PATCHOGUE, NY
UPDATE: The demolition of the Plaza Theatre has been postponed until mid-September because of Tropical Storm Irene - no date has been set yet. Town officials have decided to concentrate their efforts on Patchogue's recovery from the storm.
On August 30, the Plaza Theatre, which opened in 1962, but has not been used in more than 25 years, is finally coming down. Next Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., Brookhaven Town and Suffolk County officials will hold a ceremony outside the theatre to mark this auspicious occasion. Neighborhood residents are ecstatic over removing this dilapidated structure from Main St. in East Patchogue. Red tape held up the destruction for years. Now, the town can work on beautifying the property.
