This morning as I did my morning walk to check out the different flower beds I came upon the Dahlia bed and with the recent rains and heat they were looking pretty sad.  Over grown, lots of grass which needed to be pulled and the bed desperately needed mulch.  I decided to roll up my sleeves, grab my garden gloves and dig in.  Several hours later it was all groomed, cleaned, weeded and mulched.

I did cut back the Dahlias for they were out of control.  I will do a better job at staking them next year as they begin to grow.

Here are some yellow Dahlias which I cut from the garden.  They are beautiful.

Judith - I love Dahlias and while they don't have a lot of flowers in during the summer heat, around this time in NJ they start to bloom like crazy and look amazing. The best part is most of my perennials are done blooming and now my Dahlias are adding a profusion of color until the first frost.

Hi Kristine, my perennials are thru blooming as well except for some salvia, phlox and nandina.  The Dahlias are beautiful and add lots of color.  I hope you are out of Hurricane Irene's path.  Stay safe!

They are beautiful, we have not had enough rain for anything to look great here in Georgia, hope you do not get too much with the storm.

Hi Mary, thanks for your well wishes.  We had lots of gusts of wind today but no rain and no damage.  Thank goodness.

Hi Sussie, watch for bulbs and tubers in the spring and you will find Dahlias.   They are easy to grow.  I will have to check the Lucky Lab website to see if Beau is still listed.

Hi Deborah, I have been avoiding my flower beds as well due to the heat.  It is starting to cool enough that I am beginning to enjoy once again.  Do you get flower catalogs?? Check for Dahlias and see if they grow in your area. You would enjoy!
