I think this is going to be one of the best apps ever. It is called the CHILD ID app. It is created by the FBI and it will store photos and information about your children so it is right on hand in one of the biggest emergencies: ABDUCTION. It will allow you to show pictures and physical identifiers to Officers right on scene should your child go missing in a store, at an event or anywhere.
There is a tab so you can email this information anywhere instantly as well. There are tips on keeping your child safe in the app and also instructions on what to do in those first hours after a child goes missing.
Right now, the Child ID app is only available for use on iPhones and can only be downloaded (for free) from the App Store on iTunes, but they plan to expand this tool to other types of mobile devices in the near future. They will also be adding new features—including the ability to upload other photos stored on your smart phone—in the coming weeks and months.
No thanks. We have enough big brother already and cameras on many of the intersections we drive. Google can zoom in and you can watch people walk down the street. Do we really need to give the FBI pictures of our kids?? Dont think so I will just do the old fashioned thing and keep an eye on them when they are out. Thats what we do now and have never had a problem
Debra,
We raised our 4 sons and had no idea something like this would come along. We were the typical "hold everyone's hand" kind of family.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Steve
When minutes matter, this may just make the difference in capturing an abductor before they get too far. Great information Debra!
What a cool app .I hope they make it available on android phones very soon . There was an amber alert just the other day here in Philadelphia . Great information Debra
Thanks and stay safe
Helpfulhannah your friend in Philadelphia
Debra, this is a GREAT idea .
Forget the nay sayers, this tool could useful in so many ways in the event of a really bad situation.
Time and safe return is the most important thing in anything like this.
Enjoy the day
What a great tool that is! We lost my son in a store when he was really little and it was the most frightening experience. We were so lucky to find him in just a matter of minutes.
I don't have any children, but if I did, that app might be the app that would encourage me to buy an iPhone.
Debbie this does sound like a great App. hopefully the other smart-phones will offer this option.
Congrats on the 400,000 milestone.
Debra, thanks for sharing the great tool, it will be useful for parents to keep track of their child/children. Congratulations on your achievement of over 400,000 points.
Debra, this is a great "ID" and I was not aware of it. Prayers for your safety and your family and all in harm's way back East. Stay safe my friend!
Seems like a good idea....then so does just snapping photos on the camera phone every so often too! Everyone I know has a wallpaper of their kids now.
Dave-While I totally understand and respect your opinion I think it may be a little harsh. In child abduction cases every second counts and if this could help I would never stand in its way.
Chain RE-I too never let my daughter out of my site for a moment. But there are cases where children have been abducted from their bedrooms. You just never know what can happen. Look at Elizabeth Smart....
Wanda-I agree with you!
Hannah-Here there are Amber Alerts all the time and it is heartbreaking. We made it through the storm thank goodness-no power but that is trivial!
Don-YES IT IS. :-)
Sharon-For anyone it has happened to they understand the fear and how it can happen in seconds.
Eric-Interesting......
Jennifer-Thank you!!
Kwee-Thank you!
Bruce-Thank you-it could have been much worse considering. Losing power, flooding and downed trees is bad but with minimal or no loss of life you can't really complain.
Penny-That is true-but definitely a good idea. You never know what can help.
It's sad that we even have to have this kind of app. But I can see why it will be a tremendous hit with parents. Great job letting us know about it Debra.
