Why Supporting your Local Football Team is Important to your State’s Financial Well Being and your Community
Let’s face it, many of us hail from other states; few of us are natives of Arizona. But now, we call this “home”. I am from Boston but have lived in the Valley for over 30 years and if it weren’t for the Cardinals coming to Arizona in 1988, I would be cheering for the Patriots. But they did come to Arizona and as an Arizonan; I am an Arizona Cardinals fan! They are my “home team”. Will that get me jeers from those who are loyal to their original “home” football teams and especially those from Massachusetts? I really don’t care. I would ask them: What do those other teams do for our local community? How much money do their players, staff and their facilities contribute to our income and property taxes? How do they enrich our community? What do they do for Arizona based charities? What programs do they support for our children? Well I guess the answer to those questions would be “zilch, zero, nada”. I would ask if they knew that the organization called Cardinals Charities, since it’s inception in 1990, has donated over 3.5 million dollars to over 250 Arizona based charities. Or that individual players such as Larry Fitzgerald gives back with his First Down Fund helping children and families and has provided money for computers and vision care. And that Arizona Cardinals Women's Club consists of mothers, daughters, wives and fiancées of Arizona Cardinals players, coaches and staff who works towards improving the lives of children and underprivileged families throughout the state of Arizona. Or how many sick children had their suffering made just a little more bearable by visits from Cardinals players? And then there’s the Kid’s Camp, a free program for children. Kids Camp consists of a short motivational speech by a current or former Cardinals player and teaches non-contact football skills such as catching and throwing. .
If the Cardinals were to “tweak their own beak”, something I have not seen them do as it relates to the awesome financial contribution they make in this state, I would bet that multi digit number would blow our minds. And if that isn’t enough to make you proud to call the Cardinals your “Home Team” here’s a little something else I think is pretty cool: the Cardinals, founded in 1898 are the oldest continuously run professional American football club in the United States.

So get on the Bird Wagon, support our Arizona Cardinals!
