If the stories of a squirrel's ability to overcome the attempts by human beings to keep them out of a bird feeder were put in books they would fill countless volumes. As you can see in the picture below, this little guy or gal has figured out how to defeat one of our "former" bird feeders. It is very well known as a squirel proof feeder, but is now resting comfortably in the Prince William County landfill. We finally found one that truly is squirrel proof - at least it has been for the last four months.

Not to worry - we do feed the little monsters, but we now throw seed on the ground in the woods. Even so, they continue to try to outsmart our new feeders.

Karen,

That is the cutest picture ever!  Squirrels can be little monsters, but I like them!

Lisa  I now have a tubular feeder they can't defeat - when they get on it the entire outer case moves down and closes

Karen, that's a funny shot though!  And don't you agree, it's fun to watch these guys and admire their ingenuity?

Karen,

That is amazing as it looks pretty secure but I guess they are smarter than the feeder creators. I have always heard that squirrels are pretty smart. Thanks for sharing.

That is too cute Karen, but I imagine it does get annoying. Don't have many squirrels around here to eat the bird food.

LOL!!  My grandfather had an absolute love for nature and squirrels and every time I see a squirrel I think of him :)
