NYC HISTORICAL TRANSIT SHUT DOWN. No Subway, Train, Amtrak, LIRR or anything else
Manhattan New York and metro New York city area are under serious watch of Hurricane Irene. I hope fellow New Yorkers are taking precautions to be ready for this hurricane. A little common sense can go a long way and do not under estimate mother nature.
Here are some Hurricane Irene update for Metor area of New York city:
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo says: "The MTA will institute a system-wide shut-down when trains and buses begin their final runs starting at approximately noon on Saturday in the interest of public safety and to ensure that the system can be operational for use after the storm. The shut-down will include subways, buses, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, and Access-A-Ride."
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has declared a state of emergency in the State of New York and may close bridges and tunnels if winds exceed 60 miles an hour for more than a short time
Mayor Bloomberg ordered a mandatory evacuation of coastal areas in Brooklyn, Queens, including all of the Rockaways, and Staten Island, along with Battery Park City and the financial district in Lower Manhattan and Governor’s Island. People are expected to be out of these areas by 5PM on Saturday.
Mayor Bloomberg's Office of Citywide Events is in the process of contacting every organization holding a permitted street fair, block party, or similar outdoor event this weekend about these changes, and you will obviously have some information out about the Dave Matthews concert that is supposed to take place both Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and a myriad other events.(here is a picture of Statue of Liberty waiting for that Hurricane Irene!)
STAY SAFE EVERYONE!
