Broadkill Beach, Milton, Delaware, Delaware Real Estate

Broadkill Beach is small quaint Delaware Beach Town just a few minutes north of Lewes Delaware, nestled on the Delaware Bay and Broadkill River. This friendly close knit community offers public beach access to the Delaware Bay for swimming, fishing, crabbing and relaxing. Made up of roughly 700 home and land owners, the community is surrounded by Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge along the Delaware Bay and offers vacationers an alternative to larger more densley populated Delaware Beach Areas, while still being minutes to Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, and Dewey Beach excitment, dining and entertainment.

The Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1963 for use as sanctuary, expressly for migratory birds and is considered to have one of the best existing wetland habitat areas along the Atlantic Coast, this area is a haven for nature lovers and bird watchers in addition to other wildlife.

These picturesque habitats have become important stop-over sites for spring and fall migrating shorebirds and wading birds. The refuge's 10,000 acres are a diverse landscape featuring freshwater and salt marshes, woodlands, grasslands, scrub-brush habitats, ponds, bottomland forested areas, a 7-mile long creek, and agricultural lands.

This provides a serene habitat which is home to endangered and threatened species; the Delmarva fox squirrel, nesting bald eagles and migrating peregrine falcons and birds passing through utilize the refuge's upland forested habitat during the fall and spring.
