Changing public opinions start HERE!!

I don't know about everyone, but personally I am sick of here all the "Doom and Gloom" out there in the media.    How do we as agents fight the negative press??????  :::drum roll please:::

Here's a suggestion, Think positive..Work positive!!!!

Agents we need to get a grip on reality here.   Are you in the industry to make money or project negativity?     I am not into all the "secret" stuff but I will say you get what you project and that needs to start with each and every one of us individually to change the publics view on the market.   What a novel idea huh <grin>

Why isn't it a GREAT time to buy right now?  The interest rates are still at record lows, the prices have adjusted, people need to sell and inventory is abundant.

Why not put a positive spin on things? ..."Wow Mr. Buyer what a great opportunity there is out there to buy right now!!!    Such bargains, great rates. "

We need to start with ourselves and be accountable, and move from there.   We all know how quickly "gossip" spreads.   Why not spread some that will help us? <shrug>.

With such a huge population of professionals just here on Active Rain,  Why doubt the impact we could each have individually??

I personally think the power is in our hands we just have to take it and run with it!!!!

Gossip people Gossip....   Come on I dare you!!!!  You might be surprised what happens

Just a thought...

Desiree, I completely agree with you...and this gossip would be the good kind; true and positive. Ideas and feelings do spread and it only needs to start with a few.....

This is the perfect time for Americans and Canadians to be buying real estate and for foreign buyers to be investing in Canada and the USA.

I completely agree!!  I'm careful the way I talk to Tall One's teachers.  Her ADHD/OCD used to lead to a little trouble in the classroom.  I'd NEVER let a teacher get away with anything negative.  I would always respond with something positive like, "Yes, she sure has a lot of spirit."  Anything to get them thinking of her in a good light, and to see that I refused to think she was "wrong".

It's the same in the rest of life, including real estate.  Perception is reality, it goes both ways.

I actually talked to a real estate reporter from USA Today this afternoon.  After giving some statistics on days on market, pricing, etc. I made sure that she knew that I felt that many buyers are staying out of the market due to the negative press.  That part may not make the article, but at least I had my say so.

I believe we agents also help control the market....why spread more negativity around .....  like you said...interest rates still low....and it may just fit for some. Of course I don't recommend it to the military who has just one year left here. We have not rental left in our office. So now what? Three groups just came back from Iraq. What do they do?  Hey, VA is a great way to fly.

Now. Who else wants to talk positive?

Looking for the blessings in whatever circumstance we find ourselves in to me is the only way to cope. We can always find a positive, even the most difficult times.

I'm on a positive spin too! I say that the market is simply adjusting and returning to a more normal pace. It's true, but it's not all gloomy and doomy. In fact, my local market needed this because the prices were rising so fast that homes were becoming unaffordable to many...and as we know that would just create a different kind of problem.

I also stress how wonderful it is to buy right now, and how move up buyers have the most to gain. Unfortunately, it's not just the media...I know several agents that are spreading their version of the "market woes". I'm just plain fed up with negativity in general. I love your attitude and your post!

Desiree,  I am making a Power Point Presentation to a local Rotary club tomorrow morning on the very same subject.  I am using data from our MLS plus a presentaion by George Mason U for our association.  The last side says the solution is "tell everyone it is a great time to buy a house and they should Call Karen"

DESIREE,  The guy who's ahead of me in points for my town writes his posts like they should blow Naples off the map...It makes me CRAZY!  He starts with a "real estate is in the toilet" headline and then provides a link to his website so you can read more...seriously??? I would comment on his posts but that keeps me further away from my objective...to pass him. :)

I have been very slowly changing my blog writing style.  It was very calculated to do something phenomenal and I think you may have caught on tonight.  I have a handful of bundled investors in my pocket and feel something's gonna pop and it ain't no housing bubble!  I am watching the slow micro markets and watching the quick moving micro markets.  I report on both.  I am also reporting about fraud so consumers can be aware of what is going on and the creepy fraudulent types will BACK OFF!

Some have misconstrued my slight change as "negative" when in fact it was very very calculated

Cheers Dez!

You go girl!  Anytime anybody asks me about buying in this market, I tell them what I honestly think:  It's a GREAT time to be a buyer!  For crying out loud!  The interest rates are phenomenal, historically speaking, the prices are already down, the sellers tired, and the inventory high.  What else, exactly, does it take to make it a "buyer's market?"

Desiree, I completely agree. Some of the people i work with, both loan officers and Realtors, are so down on the market that they have nearly given up. I went out to lunch with a Realtor I've worked with for years. He is usually a take-charge, energetic guy. I asked him about his business and what he is doing to break through in this difficult time. He's stopped doing the things that worked before, and he isn't trying new things, because ... nothing works. When we were done eating I felt like sticking my head in the oven, too. But doom and gloom is self defeating. That's one of the reasons I joined Active Rain. There are opportunities, and tough times are when those who do what they need to do, can go beyond surviving and leap ahead to new levels.

I agree 100% with your post! When I tell people I'm a Realtor the first question always is...how's the market?  My response always is that the market is steady.  I think it's helpful to remind sellers that although they may not have gotten much if any appreciation in the last year, the previous 5/6 years were terrific & things have returned to a more realistic pace. Of course, with buyers, I'm saying this is a fantastic time to buy which is true!

Peter  - thanks for sharing.   Its all about getting back to basics and then finding what works.  Pull up your boot straps and jump in.   Unfortunately people got too comfortable with the "easy" market a couple of years ago and lost sight that there is truly work involved with earning an income.    Have a great day!

I'm with you Desiree - I posted something similar a couple of weeks ago.  I'm sooooo tired of the negativity!!!  I've remained positive throughout this market adjustment with anyone I meet - I just tell them the markets are local and the media is projecting a "national picture".  There IS no such thing as a national real estate market - we're all sooooo different!!!  So, I've been gossiping for months!
