The fires in California have been compared to be as devastating as Hurricane Katrina by our local news station. I cannot fathom what the actual outcome will be considering it's nowhere near under control and the numbers are rising.
The only silver lining in this devastating tragedy, as reported on this evening's news, is Corporate America is lending a hand. UHAUL was reported to provide free transport and storage to affected homeowners.
Many evacuees are staying in area hotels at discounted rates. The Marriott Hotel in downtown San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter has offered fire evacuees a rate $129 per night, about 30 percent lower than their regular rates. About 20 percent of the guests at Marriott's fully booked marina property are fire evacuees paying more than $100 under the standard $260.
A number of airlines, including Continental, Delta, Southwest, American and United Airlines, are allowing customers to make changes to their flight plans at some Southern California airports without penalty.
Old Faithful "The American Red Cross" is always present and ready to help as well. Link here to get to the Red Cross Website for more information.
I hope all people affected are spared any fatalities and can get back to normalcy in their lives as soon as possible. God Bless them and keep them safe.
