21 Comments on The Gargoyles of New York
Hi Patricia, They look like they could fit in well in DC. Gosh learn the hard way...maybe carry a spare one in your purse or camera case.
Clear day before Irene's passing! Hope all is well for you.
Gloria
What a cool building. Love your photographs of very unusual architechtual details Pat.
Wow... Sometimes we forget to just look up, and this is a great example of just looking up! :)
There are no gargoyles all over the place here. Pine trees and deer all over the place!
Lenn called me once to say she did the same thing! Those gargoyles look like eagles - I hear they're the best kind!
Very cool! Love that picture! I wonder just how many gargoyles there are in NYC!!
Patricia,
There's something about a gargoyle that makes you ponder! I've seen lots of them on old architectural buildings and always wondered about heir significance. Then for whatever reason, I'm always reminded of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Once I listed a house and the owners moved out of state. She left her gargoyle behind and gave it to me as a gift. The poor little gargoyle ended up staying inside my garage because it was speechless. The years have passed - its not in my garage anymore and I don't even remember what I did with him. I definitely think they look better on a building such as the one you took a picture of!
Pat - isn't New York City an incredible place. The architecture, rhythm, non-stop action and most interesting - the people. I could sit in Central Park or the Village all day and people watch! I look like a tourist every time I cvist, because I always have my camera too - it's a great place to take pictures. Hope you had a lot of fun and to think you road out Irene right in Manhattan! Glad you are safe and sound.
Nice shot! The gargoyles on the museum represent extinct animals and plants to the east and the living to the west. (I just looked it up)
It is fascinating and You do have to wonder what superstition started that tradition.

Patricia,
That is really interesting. Gargoyles are one those architectrual features, and how nice that they represent extinct animals, thank you Mitchell. Have a great week. A
Leave it to Mitchell to find out the meaning I always wondered and was fascinated ..Great shot Pat
The title of your post should be made into a movie....sounds creepy, dark and just up my alley!
Pretty cool. I love seeing old statues. Especially when they are on buildings. Iwas in Europe years ago and they have tons of them.
Pat, I felt for you hearing you forgot to put the card back in place...kinda like me leaving the battery in the charger and the charger in the plug...out of the house and oops too darn late!.

Patricia - far too often one rushes out the door at the last moment for that listing appointment grabbing the camera as you pass only to remember as you drive down the street you were working on some pictures yesterday and the memory chip is still in the computer
Pat
I am amazed at the architecture and the effort they put into buildings during that period.
I hate when that happens...I have done it many times though.. :) glad you are loving NY and you didnt get washed away with the storm.
Patricia....I've always been fascinated by them....They are so mysterious....Thanks!
Hope you have a great day!!---Rob
Go Vols!
Pat - I love all the photos that you always take, no matter where you are traveling to!
