I Thank Thee - A Personal Psalm of Thanks

When I think of the life I had, it makes me really very sad.

All the time that passed me by, just sitting around and getting high.

Then Your Spirit touched my heart, and gave me a fresh new start.

So now I am proud to say, saying it each and everyday.

Lord, I thank Thee, I thank Thee Lord.

Lord, I praise Thee, I praise Thee, Lord.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Lord. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Lord.

Since my heart accepted You, my worship is in spirit and truth.

And Your peace is all around, which makes my life stable and sound.

For Your Spirit does guide me, and helps to set and keep me free.

So now I am proud to say, saying it each and everyday.

Derrick,

It is so uplifting to see someone give thanks so openly, I'm glad you have found that strength! I know I don't know you, but I feel drawn to ask you to include a friend of mine in your prayers. He is going through a really tough time and has made mistakes along the way. He needs a miracle to turn his life around. I used to know him really well but lately I don't recognize the person he has become. His demon is alcohol and it has him in a very bad place, emotionally, physically & with the law. He is not one to ask for help, so I will ask for him. Thank you in advance for your understanding, and thanks to anyone else that may say a prayer for him!

Penny - Thank you. The Lord is at the center of my life and has been for many years. Thanks to His Holy Spirit I found and continue to find the strength. I will pray for your friend and ask other brothers and sisters to do the same. Tell your friend others are praying for him and start to believe that he has the victory.

Alexander - We are not perfect. Only one was and is, and I am glad it ended a long time ago also. Thanks.

Arina - I am glad that sharing this personal psalm has provided inspiration to you. In the 90's, I played in a Contemporary Christian Band. We performed this song as part of a set at block parties, coffee houses and other events. So, feel free to share it with others.

I believe we all at some time have had instances we wish we had not.

I know I have changed since I fully accepted the Lord....and I hope and pray we all continue on that path.

Having lived in NYC during the Studio 54 days and beyond, I can relate.

Looking back, I used to wonder how did I ever get out of some situations that would've certainly led to oblivion.

I can only thank God for it was by his grace that I survived those times. Many of my ex-cohorts are either dead or in the big house. They partied a little too much I guess.

I'm sure God has his reasons for what he does. He had something for me to do and I'll keep doing it until he decides "Okay you've done enough!"

Wow, this song really brings back memories. It's amazing. =).

Danielle - I hope they are good memories because the Lord really used us as Music Ministers and this song to witness to so many people.

Very inspiring poem and testimony Derrick. We've all found ourselves in places and situations that were it not for the grace of God (and somebody praying for us) there's no telling where we would be. I feel a praise song coming on! Thanks for sharing!
