I spoke with an lady who was in the business of foreclosing on people. She dealt with defaults, loan mods, trustees sales, evictions and all the rest of it. It finally took a toll on her. You see you start out by looking at paperwork and numbers. It isn't until you start talking with the people affected that your conscience kicks in
THEY HAVE A JOB TO DO
Let's be clear that there is no wrong in carrying out the breach clause in any agreement. The right to do so is clearly defined up front and agreed to by all the parties. It is when the dispossessed, the defaulter, make contact and start sharing their stories and circumstances that it causes discomfort to anyone who has a heart
LIFE IS FULL OF FAILURES
I have dealt with many people who have failed to pay rent over the years and had to be evicted. I have seen foreclosures played out on people as well as cars repossessed. I have seen people stalked by bill collectors and no one prospers within themselves to see others suffering. It is a job that has to be done a certain way
LAW ENFORCEMENT SEES IT EVERY DAY
Police are exposed to the hard realities of life every day. They do not have the answers, but they sure have a lot of questions. To be exposed to someone else's suffering day in and day out works on your own Psyche. People who are on the front lines very often need counseling every once in a while to release all their pent up feelings and emotions.
REMEMBER, IT IS PEOPLE THAT WE ARE DEALING WITH
Failure to interact with people in a responsible and caring way causes one to harden their heart. After a while, you slowly become the problem because you failed to carry out your duties without judgment and compassion. This goes against every command in your being to cause harm to another in any way.
WHAT THEN?
I remember reading the story of two Roman soldiers who heard Jesus speak one day and they became convinced that his message was right and pure. But it was in conflict with their inner parts and commitments as soldiers. They approached him and asked him for a solution.
THE ANSWER PARAPHRASED
Do no more than what is required of you. Carry out your instructions with an awareness of what you are doing. Do not add or take away, but do what is necessary. Lending a hand, a kind word and showing some compassion in the carrying out of your duties will benefit all concerned. Do it, but do it correctly
DO UNTO OTHERS...BEST YOU CAN
Negotiators, bill collectors, car repo people and all the rest. Do what you have to do keeping in mind that there go people for whatever reason that are not exactly where they want to be. If you can, summon the old tried and true...there go I but for the grace of God and then act accordingly
