Capitol of Texas It will still be hot in Austin in September so remember to dress lightly, use sun screen and take water with you.

The Capitol is always an interesting place to tour but here are some events you might not want to miss:

Giant - Showing at the Paramount 2011 Summer Classic Film Series Closing Party

Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. Directed by George Stevens.This tale of oil and cattle in Texas is a generation-spanning epic that contains some of the finest acting of the 50s. When Bick Benedict (Hudson), rancher, marries Leslie (Taylor) he can’t know that the decision will echo across decades. Also featuring James Dean in an Oscar nominated performance, the film is a fitting tribute to the late Elizabeth Taylor who delivers one of her best performances here.

Splash Jam
Sunday, Sept 4th @ 5pm
Elizabeth Milburn Park, 1901 Sun Chase Blvd., Cedar Park, TX
Enjoy a washer tournament at 4pm.  Enjoy live music with a dance, an inflatable and a Movie in the Park - Despicable Me sponsored by Time Warner Cable.  Fees apply for the following:  food concessions, face painting, video games, laser tag, and hamster balls.  Time Warner will also raffle off a free HDTV; must be present to win.  Milburn Pool will also be open (regular pool admission rates apply).

The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival is a seven-day live performance festival that showcases some the best in improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy from all over the country and across the globe. Now in its tenth year, the festival is expected to host 500 performers in 80 shows over the 7 days leading up to Labor Day. Buy tickets for the week, or for individual shows at:

24rd LGBT Annual Film Festival
Tuesday, Sep 6th - Sunday, Sep 11th
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, 1120 S Lamar Blvd
The festival has grown tremendously in size and scope from a short four-day run of four films primarily focused on coming out and AIDS to a multimedia event with over 150 films depicting myriad issues across cultures, race, immigration status, class, gender identity and expression, age, and region.

Walter E. Long Metro Park, 6614 Blue Buff Rd.
Started in 2007 as a way to raise awareness and research funds for Celiac disease and gluten 
intolerance, this event is more than a race, it´s also 
the BIGGEST gluten-free food fair in Texas.
