14 Comments on OMSI the USS Blueback (SS-581) submarine, answer to Where is it Wednesday...somewhere in Portland, OR 8/31/11
Good Morning Cindy,
I just posted this on Facebook hoping to get more players. I might have the answer, but will wait until later to post my guess ;-)
Cindy-
Well, this was NOT easy, and I might not be right, but I was looking at the picture, then did some research on line, then looked at it again and said, geez, it kind of looks like a submarine. So my guess is this is the USS Blueback which is at the OMSI.....
Am I at least close?
Kat
John- thanks for the reminder that today was Wednesday! Time goes FAST.
Cindy,
It appears Kat has done it again! Congratulations! Please allow me to add the USS Blueback SS-581 was retired after 31 years of service. You may remember seeing this submarine in the movie Hunt for Red October.
Hi Kat and John, Yep...Kat..see..just a few clicks and you got it! Not tooooooo hard. It's been a crazy busy day..and now off to have dinner with new friends downtown...in the Riverfront area..probably right across from OMSI. I'll post my re-cap when I get home. John...you are way good at this!!
Ummmm The US? LOL
Cindy,
What a great idea. John contacted me earlier in the day and I couldn't get here until now.
I never would have guess! Kat is pretty amazing. I would love to learn how she does her research.
I'll be back again next Wednesday.
This is a great idea!
Wow, so cool! I love this Wednesday puzzle.
Patricia - Once I realized it sort of looked like a submarine, I just hunted for submarine and portland, and I saw a picture with similar poles to Cindy's picture and then I said, "A-HA!"
Hi Nevin...thanks for the smile!
Hi Patricia, If John was here, I'd give him a huge hug...so instead he gets a virtual one via AR. I've been doing this for a while and have really been enjoying learning more about the areas in Portland. I've actually learned quite a lot since doing this each week. I now have friends and family telling me of places that would be good. Welcome and hope to see you for next weeks Where is it Wednesday!
Hi Kat, google is wonderful isn't it!! How did we ever manage without it I don't know. Guess we'd have to go to the library, pull out one of those encyclopedias (remember them) and take a look.
Cindy--are you doing the localism contest? You're already doing it, so I thought it might be a no-brainer for you. Also, you're mentioned in my latest post--MeetUp....see you next Tuesday!
Hi Cindy,
Aw shucks...I think you have created a really great game and we need lots of people to play along.
Something interesting...I started writing blogs for patch.com and have been approved to write for Exeter, Hampton-North Hampton and Portsmouth, NH. Sorry, Patch has not yet come to Oregon, but they are in Washington and California. Patch is a sister company to AOL. They have created "neighborpedias" for each town with news, weather, restaurants and business listings with a website for each town. In fact if you use AOL as your home browser page, AOL has just added a new Patch tab to the nav bar. Anyway, weekly, the editor's of these Patch towns post a photo and ask where it is in town. Do you know I have never been able to guess one AND I LIVE HERE! Anyway, hope Patch comes to Oregon for you!
BTW, this will be great exposure to be able to write blogs for my own town Patch sites, and, they let me keep all my real estate marketing stuff and links in the signature ;-) Check this out: http://portsmouth-nh.patch.com/search/blog_posts
Sure hope you have a great Labor Day Weekend!
Hi Gayle, Oh.thanks for the reminder..it's September!!..I not only need to get back on track with the Pay it forward group, try to make a "talent" video and check to see what the requirements are again for this localism contest! Heading over to check your blog shortly!
Hi John, that's very cool with Patch.com. I remember hearing about it before..perhaps through you. What a great opportunity for you and the Exeter,Hampton-North Hampton and Portsmouth,,communities to read your great posts. They must make those local pictures really upclose for you to not get any.
