Looking on the Bright Side!
So this is the first day since Sunday when Hurricane Irene hit that I am actually looking on the bright side. Now that I have power restored, I think I must put it all in perspective.
We lost power at 8:30 a.m on Sunday and didn't have it restored until today, Wednesday. I had been commiserating with people who didn't have power and was envious of people who didn't lose it or had it restored earlier. Now I just feel sorry for the people who are still without power.
I was lucky that my daughter had her power back on Tuesday night so we stayed with her and were very appreciative of lights after dark, free-flowing water, a warm dinner prepared at home, television, internet, etc. But there were many people who just had to manage on their own.
We were lucky, most of us. It could have been worse, and for some it was worse than what we experienced. Ours was a disruption, an inconvenience. And after my power was restored I was able to look on the bright side: No one I knew was hurt; people lost property, but that can be replaced.
And, truth be told, I was really glad that I didn't wash my windows last week like I had planned to do.
