Looking on the Bright Side!

Hurricane Irene - Let there be light!

So this is the first day since Sunday when Hurricane Irene hit that I am actually looking on the bright side. Now that I have power restored, I think I must put it all in perspective.

We lost power at 8:30 a.m on Sunday and didn't have it restored until today, Wednesday.  I had been commiserating with people who didn't have power and was envious of people who didn't lose it or had it restored earlier.   Now I just feel sorry for the people who are still without power.

I was lucky that my daughter had her power back on Tuesday night so we stayed with her and were very appreciative of lights after dark, free-flowing water, a warm dinner prepared at home, television, internet, etc.  But there were many people who just had to manage on their own.

We were lucky, most of us.  It could have been worse, and for some it was worse than what we experienced.  Ours was a disruption, an inconvenience.  And after my power was restored I was able to look on the bright side: No one I knew was hurt; people lost property, but that can be replaced.

And, truth be told, I was really glad that I didn't wash my windows last week like I had planned to do.

I live in Saint Augustine Florida and was so happy to have it miss us. I cannot believe all the other places Irene hit and how much damage was done. Glad that you were safe and that all is getting back to normal again. Crazy times with this weather anymore!

Peggy -- Glad to hear you're lit up again. It certainly has been crazy.  I heard a story today that a group of people surrounded and stopped a UI truck as it made its way through neighborhoods surveying damage.  I hope everyone is back up soon. My friend who lives only a few miles from me was told she may not get power back until the middle of next week!

Peggy, glad you managed through the ordeal. It is hard for me to believe we are talking next week for some to have power restored, wow! I lost power for 9 hours only, my grandson was not happy, LOL.

Hi Diane - Usually it is Florida and SE coast that has to worry about it, so I'm glad it missed you.

Hi Barbara - I know people who are still without power too.  I hope it's much sooner than next week.

Hi Karen - I think we are really lucky.  I was watching a huge tree in my back yard swaying and hoping it didn't fall on my house.  Some people weren't that lucky.

Hi Andrea - Three days was enough of a disruption for me--can't imagine going any longer.  It makes you loony.

Peggy I was one of the lucky ones that did not lose power, but I have been without power for several days before, and it is not fun.

Ooh, George, you were one of the people I was so envious of! But glad to hear you didn't have to worry about power!
