Football is Big Business - Especially in Texas

I don’t know about you but I am ready for my football.

Living, working and playing in Austin, Texas is particularly wonderful at the kick off of college football – in spite of the horrible heat wave and drought we are experiencing.  I probably will not make a tailgate party in Austin if the temperatures stay in the triple digits regardless of the amount of cold beer or portable shade or number of big screen TVs.  Nothing beats the AC right now.

Weather aside and with college football season only days away – there are some interesting twist going on in Texas.

Today, Texas A & M announced they will depart the Big 12 and move to the SEC June 30, 2012.  Well, IF the SEC will accept them.  It sounds like they had to resign from the Big 12 to even be considered a player in the SEC.

As a college football fan from the Great State of Texas, this is distressing. If I am interrupting the move correctly, I can only conclude the move is about the almighty dollar.  Shame on the perpetrator of this thinking.  I never thought college football would become Big Business to this extent.

Then there is the launch of the (video) Longhorn Network.  But it looks as though we won’t be able to watch the new network unless the citizenry call their cable provider and demand the new LN get picked up.  One would think major details such as VIEWERS would have been resolved by the start of the season.

Here is the schedule for college football in Texas or at least, my favs:

Ann, I am so proud of you blogging about your football favorite team. I guess I will just have to do a blog on the Univeristy of Alabama.  Roll Tide and lets make this season a good one!! I live for Saturdays and make my schedule so I will not be bothered. It is hard work but I look forward to the game. I have even been guilty of watching pre seasoned pro games.

Anne,

Your temperatures look like what we should have had this summer. We've had quite the cooling spell.

Wishing you a great season,

Steve
