My home city of Arlington, Tx has been around since 1876. Like many places back in those days, it was a farming community and also known for cotton ginning. But what really made this city great and made it thrive was the opening of the General Motors plant in 1954. Of course the man responsible for bringing GM to Arlington was the great Tom Vandergriff. Vandergriff was actually responsible for so much of what Arlington has accomplished throughout the last 60 years, it’s really amazing. That’s really a story in itself I suppose. Still today, GM is a staple in Arlington. When GM does well, Arlington thrives. When there are threats of possible cutbacks or even a closing at GM, things get a little scary.
With as much industry and entertainment as Arlington has gained over the years, GM is still what powers this city.
