Helping Junior Golfers Appreciate the Game . . . Pay it Forward
At Crestbrook Park Golf Course in Watertown CT, there is a junior golf program, much like most golf courses in the country. For a couple of hours a day, a few weeks out of the summer, the staff teach young golfers the proper mechanics of the game, golf etiquette.
For golfers below the age of 12, it's a great way to learn the game properly and make some new friends as well.
Throughout the summer the staff keep the young golfers involved on thre driving range and on the practice tee.
Different contests are held to keep the kids interested. For the final event of the summer, a morning is set aside for the young pros, and they get to play on the course.
Scores are kept, just like a regular golf tournament, and at the end of the match prizes are awarded.
I had made a donation to the Junior Golf program, as well as donating a box of new golf balls I had, which were fine, just not my brand. A week later, the head pro handed me an envelope explaining it was from one of the junior golfers.
