Mario's Pizza: Things to Do in Tucson
When a pizza place sticks around for over 30 years, it's worth noticing. Not a Pizza Hut, nor a Domino's, or even a national restaurant serving grilled items and pizza: A nice, locally owned, slice of heaven - that's Mario's Pizza.
It's tucked into a southwest corner near First and Ft. Lowell and if you don't look quick, you might miss it.
It's one of those places I've driven by for ten years and suddenly one day I said...let's stop!...even if only for a snack.
I'm glad we did. They sell Pizza by the slice. :)
Inside you can see it's geared for the lunch crowd...or the take and eat. There's not a lot of seating. But almost in opposite, open up the menu and see an enormous array of choices and styles.
I love the individual names: The Cowboy, The Carnivore, The Pounder, The Garden...from individual slices to 20" around...mmmm. You can even order your own combination.
Then there's the Italian dinners ...spaghetti, lasagna, raviolli, chicken, wings, shrimp, salads, subs, burgers, desserts... clearly something for everyone! What really caught my eye were the family dinners. What a great idea on a busy day. Pasta dinners for 6 with meat, for as low as $15.95. Wow!
When you bite into a slice, you'll understand why Mario's Pizza has been around for 32 years. For just over $2, you can get a quick lunch and a lingering smile to bide you through your afternoon.
My husband's from New York and he's always talking about the slices you fold over and eat on the street. Good ole Italian Street Food - it's like that...
I'm going back to try the Pastas and salads.
Enjoy trying new Pizza? Sample a slice this week at Mario's Pizza - I recommend it!
Oh...and sorry I don't have a pizza photo...we ate them too fast!
