As I am driving to an appointment this morning, I got to thinking about cars.  I'm looking for a new car.  My daughter will take mine in Janary and I need a new one.  Do I lease or do I buy?  The cars I am looking at are so expensive but I want to look successful.  Also, colors!  How boring the world is getting.  I noticed white, black, silver and beige cars...maybe a burgundy here and there. What happened to bright blues and the great deep dark purple that the Dodge used to make, or candy apple red!  We need more color in the world!  Another thing...should I "wrap" my car with my logo or just put on back window?  How would a Mercedes or Lexus look with this?  I want my car to shout "Hey I sell Real Estate and I'm successful and you should use me!"  Afterall my car is my office.  Perception is everything!  So, what do you think?

You Lease!

And I can think of nobody better equipped to give you the finer points of leasing than Janet Guilbault.

Why Realtors Should Lease Their Cars

is a great post.  But I also know she'd be very happy to discuss anything with you.

Now as for which car to pick?   I'll leave that up to the others.  How about a motorcycle?  For business, I'm partial to the BMW R1200GS Adventure.  ; )

I like my Harley Davidson ElectraGlide but it is hard to do any work from it.   For some reason, when I ride it, work is the last thing on my mind.

My "work" vehicles are a 97 Chevy Tahoe and a 06 Dodge Charger.

Get yourself a Hummer H1 Alpha, and wrap it.  EVERYBODY will know you.  EVERYBODY.  Alternately, I would look at a Mercedes diesel.  If you take care of your cars, it will last forever, get amazing gas mileage, and M/B styling doesn't go out of style.  I know, diesel = smoke and noise... not any more.  If you ever want to be REALLY green, you could run bio-diesel, made from vegetable oil, and cleaner than ethanol.

The other option would be a Jeep Wrangler 4 door with a wrap.  They are a new body style, and attention grabbing.  Next year they are supposed to have a diesel, but that won't help you now...

Mike, I like the article on leasing was great!

Jeff, I mentioned in another Blog, my husband just bought a cruising Harley - I think it's called.  I'm not a big fan of bikes especially when he lets my 16 year old daughter ride with him.

Lane -I would love a Hummer but not sure on the gas mileage.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Sharon... get a diesel and get your husband to mix up bio-diesel in the garage... Even without using bio-diesel, your mileage will be MUCH higher than a similar gas powered vehicle.

Sharon,

I used to have a Ford XLT (4dr and very roomy) with my info on the back bumper...Turtle green and I was known for it.

I now have a Buick Luzerne (Burgundy) and my info int he rear window.  I have found it has taken a bit longer for the car/name recognition....however, just about every time I am out I am asked ...how I like the car, that they are considering it and how great it looks.

I hope this helps.

2006 Tahoe.  Eats gas but super comfort.  It is my second Tahoe.  This one has all the upgrades and I love it, the kids love it and so do clients.  Touch screen navigation is key and I use it all the time. The DVD with wireless headsets is also great if you ever take a client around who has kids. Stick the kids in the second and third rows and let them choose which Disney DVD they want to watch.  Throw the DVD in and put the headsets on them and they are nice and quiet and allows you to talk with mom and dad without interruption and the parents love it.  But I must confess most clients follow me or meet me at a certain house.  But my kids love it and so do I - especially on family trips that are over a couple hours in length.  Like the 2 trips to Tennessee each year.  What a lifesaver!!!!!

Hi Sharon:  I am trying to picture you driving a Hummer H1... that's the big one.  Or riding a Harley Davidson ElectraGlide... that's the big one, too.  It isn't working.  How about a Toyota Avalon.  I love mine.

Sharon, two points. First, I will never rent or lease anything I can buy. My office building or cars. I come from the landlord side of the business and a large portion of our monthly income is from leaseing property. Every month they pay my mortgages and provide myself with a comfortable living. No leasing for myself. Secondly, I drive a Cadillac CTS 2007. She is red and man o man. Everyone knows I am in real estate. The caddy speaks for itself. The red just gets there attention. We also have an 2007 Saturn Outlook. My wife's car. When I do drive it, the Outlook, people will ask where the caddy?

What ever you but try to make it green.  There are a lot of options from mild (the Vue) to Prious (sp).  Mercedes has some killer diesel cars and VW is bring back the diesel shortly.  I drive a VW Passat wagon and it always looks great.  I got the GLS version which has all the bells and whistles.  The shiny paint job and mag wheels look good everywhere.

I love my Lexus...I strongly recommend them...I prefer to own.....when you lease they only give you a certain amount of miles and in this business,I am always driving...Let us know what you decide!

Sharon,

I agree with BLR Guy. Leasing may not be as good as the miles will be capped. The Lexus or Cadillac are nice choices.

The car you buy depends on you and your market area.  I live in a market area that covers over 3,000 square miles - comfort for me is important.  Also, I own a Buick LeSabre that is comfortable and conservative in appearance - that's my style and it works for me.  My REALTOR husband has been driving Mercury Marquis for years - same basic comfortable, conservative car, Karen Karen

My daugter is getting my 2001 RX Lexus on 1/9/08.  That's when she gets her drivers license.  So I have to have a new car by then.  I have almost decided on what I'm going to buy but will let you know when I do.  Thanks for all the comments.

Thanks for all your comments.  Well I did it!  I bought a new (New to Me) car. My son, Aaron works for Park Place Ford in Dallas. He called me last week and said he just got in a used car with a Navigation System and to come see it.  I did and he gave me such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up.  The color is Charcoal Gray - yes...gray!  Not exactly what I wanted but I'll blend in well with the rest of the cars (until I wrap it).  Ok you have waited long enough......I bought a 2006 RX330 Lexus!  Almost the same car I had RX300 Lexus - silver.  Can you belive it?  Well, I'm retiring my old one to my 16 year old daughter who needs a car since she is getting her drivers license.  I am a bit sad because it's the same type car I had but it looks good and has an excellent record.  But I am going to have the back window wrapped with my logo and phone number. Oh, well maybe next time I'll buy a bright red mercedes or BMW or a Hummer!
