Putting All of Florida’s Taxpayers First

Florida Taxpayers First is fighting for property tax relief that will touch every Florida taxpayer. We will work for reforms that support the homeowner and the small business owner. And by lowering property taxes across the board, taxpayers will feel the same positive impact of a lower burden of government, whether you are a property owner or a renter.

Amendment 4 – A Change Florida Needs

Next year, Florida Taxpayers First will lead the fight to pass Amendment 4, which accomplishes all of these things and more, providing critical relief for all Floridians when we need it most.

What Amendment 4 Means

  • Recapture Repeal – Common Sense Tax Relief
If approved Amendment 4 will allow the Florida Legislature to repeal the rule known as “recapture”, ensuring that if your property value goes down, your property taxes cannot go up, sparing countless homeowners from higher taxes on top of lower home values.
  • Non-Homestead Properties
Reduces the cap on the increase of property assessments for non-homestead property from 10% to 5%. Even if you do not have a homestead exemption for your home or office, your assessed value cannot increase by more than 5% from year to year.
  • First-Time Homebuyer Homestead Exemption
Provides an additional homestead exemption for first-time homebuyers or homebuyers who have not had a homestead exemption in the last three years.
